Elephant Town Chapter 1 (pages 6-8)

Kris is such a troll.

Fun fact, the term "WIFI" was coined as a pun on the term "hi-fi" (high fidelity), but wasn't technically meant to abbreviate "wireless fidelity." So WIFI just kinda means... WIFI.

Special thanks to patron Margaret Oliver for picking the movie A New Leaf with Walter Matthau (full clip here if you're curious!), and thanks to practically everyone for suggesting shrimp scampi for dinner. Now I'm officially jealous of what they're watching and what they're eating.

I'll start linking previous pages down here from now on! (Assuming I remember. ;) Hope some of you got to enjoy the same GORGEOUS WEATHER we got on the east coast over the weekend! Be well and see ya Monday!

UUH YES PLEASE!! <3 <3

Danielle Corsetto

I recently made shrimp scampi twice! I'll make it for you <3

I would say disbelief suspended, but I don't really expect anyone to know about it.... it's pretty niche nerd stuff

Bryce Smith

Omg attaching another router via Ethernet, that's brilliant. Uh, also, pretend my characters don't know that because... they don't.

Danielle Corsetto

(I missed this until now!) THANK YOU Joe!! It's not mansplaining or geeksplaining if you legitimately know more than me on this, and you definitely do. :) My house is lousy with plaster; I'm not sure there's any metal in there, but definitely wood lath. The house is almost 250 years old. Luckily my router & modem are set up down in the living room, directly below my studio, but the other rooms in this weird L-shaped house full of walls suffer for it! I don't know if the router I have is a long-range one, so I'll look into that whenever I need to replace it. I did have a friend who lived with me gift me (and himself) an external antennae that we keep in the window. Not decoratively appealing, but it seems to help! Thanks for the tips!

Danielle Corsetto

The simple solution is use Ethernet over Power Lines into another Wifi Router/Modem.

Bryce Smith

Apologies for the pending man/geek-splain. I have an old house full of plaster and metal lath. The metal lath generally acts as a Faraday Cage, making reception on the same floor dicey. The key is knowing that it’s not always the router’s signal that’s weak - it’s sometimes the device’s wifi antenna that isn’t the best. That opens up two options. 1: put the router on the floor *below* where you’ll be using it (less metal in the floor means less signal loss) if possible. Fiddle with router antenna orientation (vertical/horizontal) until you see more bars. 2: get a long range (LR) router. Weaker phone and device antennas will see a stronger signal, and the router can better handle the weaker phone signal. Hope this helps, or at least does no harm.

I have expressed complaints about the WiFi at the hotel we were forced to use at a VERY sold-out convention, where it reached absolutely everywhere EXCEPT the gym how do they expect me to use their wobbly equipment without Crunchyroll to distract me

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I would HOPE it is fireless!

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Hah! Yep, that sounds about right. (Of course that's also true of most relationships with most other platforms. So like.... the entire Internet.)

Danielle Corsetto

Yes! Patreon and I have an adversarial relationship. 😒

Ruth Merriam

Weird that you couldn't see the full images! Did you get to see the whole thing eventually?

Danielle Corsetto

Oooo I wanna hear about this mesh method! (But, just like Jeremy in the comment below, I'm preparing to continue sobbing that it probably won't work in my house.)

Danielle Corsetto

I saw the first two comments and was like "if my wifi problems get solved because of some comments under a fictional comic..." but nope, no, this house is nothing but plaster and magical wormholes where my wifi signal is intercepted and sent to some distant planet. I feel your pain.

Danielle Corsetto

I had to look up that bit of dialogue because it was fabulous and because Patreon cut off all but the first panel the first and second time I opened this. Also, no fishing for BOGO compliments to the chef tonight. Many dropped signals of both the interpersonal and wireless ahead.

Ruth Merriam

Everyone should watch it!

Margaret Oliver

I can already tell I am going to like this one.

Paul W.

Oooh, "A New Leaf" has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it when it first came out!

Betty P Thomas

I don't mean to be that guy on the Internet, Danielle, but it's obvious that Wi-Fi is short fore Wireless-Fireless. SMH.

Jemaleddin Cole

Can still be challenging in houses with plaster (SOB) (IT'S TINY, WHY ARE THERE STILL PROBLEMS!!!!!

Jeremy

Or use mesh! 😁

Pavel Curtis

Can't they just get a wifi extender?
