How do you want your Patreon? And: Oh Joy Sex Toy guest strip!
Added 2019-03-16 19:09:57 +0000 UTC
Hey there and hello! I'm gonna start this with a TL;DR: here's a guest strip I made for Oh Joy Sex Toy, and what do you want me to share on Patreon? Scroll down to answer some poll questions!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My guest strip for Erika Moen's Oh Joy Sex Toy went up last Tuesday! It's about my experience with polyamory, whittled way down to five pages and explained to my cat.
It was VERY hard to decide what to write about and what to cut out; I could talk about my poly thoughts forever. But I hope this whets your appetite if you're new to the idea and curious, or gives you some insight if you don't "get" polyamory. If you're a poly buddy, I hope you'll enjoy the shoutout!
Anyway, I'm posting the link here because our social media preferences are SO vast these days; maybe you follow me here, but don't follow me on Twitter, and therefore never heard about this guest strip. Or you follow me on Twitter, but Twitter is such a pile these days that you never saw my announcement. Either way, I know that *I* like it a lot when the creators I back on Patreon tell me about stuff they posted elsewhere, because I often miss it otherwise.
So I'm curious: how do YOU use Patreon? I use it as sort of an aggregate for my favorite creators' stuff, plus bonus material they offer, plus I like feeling like I'm financially helping them create the things that I love. But maybe you feel differently?
I'd like to hear how YOU use Patreon so I know what to share with you here. Check off ANY of the following statements that apply to you, please and thank you! (Feel free to elaborate in the comments!)
Comments
From the entire list, I choose: I'd enjoy a daily post from you if you have enough interesting stuff to share every day. Do your work, I love it and need it!

2019-03-29 17:40:17 +0000 UTCChristina I missed your comment until just now! You're so sweet, thank you to you and your husband! <3 Typing this with one hand because the other one is cradling the little numbskull as he sleeps on my lap with his whole face in the crook of my arm, and one arm jutting out straight as a stick.

2019-03-27 04:50:29 +0000 UTCI selected "more Pip pls" in addition to others, but the anthropomorphised Pip, with his CrAzY wAy Of sPeAkInG, in "Oh Joy Sex Toy" was soooooooooooo wonderful and entertaining. He reminded me of the wonky hyena in Lion King. Hehehehehe. Anyway, thanks for all you do. You bring great joy and beauty to all our lives and my husband and I are so delighted to support you in our small way.

2019-03-18 21:01:42 +0000 UTCI support you because I believe you have a unique voice in web comics. I hope my little bit of cash helps keep you moving along. I love the art tutorial stuff and the life drawing results you share. Enjoyed meeting you a few times at conventions too so i could hear about what was new first hand. keep up the great work and see you on the circuit somewhere no doubt down the road.

2019-03-18 14:39:28 +0000 UTCI clicked a lot of options (because hey, you let me and they're all true) but fundamentally, I'm on Patreon to support people who've already given me a lot of joy. It's nice that I get updates from folks pretty regularly, but it's like an NPR tote bag.
2019-03-18 14:13:35 +0000 UTCHaha, we are exactly alike in all of this! I've got notifications turned off for some creators (because I love what they do, but they update a LOT and I'm trying to declutter my inbox), so I only see what comes to me via email.

2019-03-18 13:59:15 +0000 UTCMy primary reason for being on Patreon is the easy-peasy way it lets me send financial support to the creators I follow. I appreciate the posts they make, and usually click through my email to read them rather than going to the main page. I'm sure I'm missing a ton of content, but I just don't spend that much time at my laptop or phone. Thanks for asking!

2019-03-18 10:56:08 +0000 UTCLoved how simple and direct your Poly story was. I have a bunch of poly friends and they are so comfortable about it and talk about it so naturally. Then there are the people I know who aren't familiar about it. I am amused that the first thing they say is "I'd be so jealous!" or something of that nature. Every one of them. There are way more non-poly people I know, so I've heard this a bunch of times. Jealousy is an interestingly complex thing. I loved how you resolved it in the strip!
2019-03-18 06:33:22 +0000 UTCOh my god I didn't even consider how RARE it is to have a feed that's IN ORDER! Hey Patreon... good job.

2019-03-17 18:22:20 +0000 UTCDitto on what most people said! I like supporting my favorite creatives on Patreon because I can really curate what I want to see, and it it still chronological and not a g-d fire hose like Twitter.

2019-03-17 18:18:55 +0000 UTCDude, same re: old-person preference to email. I was actually really surprised (and glad!) to discover that MOST people access Patreon updates via email notifications! Last year at the Patrecon gathering, I asked someone who specialized in Patreon stats how most users access their creators' posts, and they said with no hesitation "email." So, yay, we're not old! That, or everyone else who uses Patreon is also old. :p

2019-03-17 18:09:58 +0000 UTCI use Patreon for 3 things in general: support creators I like, get updates I might otherwise miss, and see sketches and in-progress art. I don't care whether those sketches are special-to-patreon or not, I just want them and will pay if I have to! And maybe I'm old, but I've found it pretty useless to get essential updates in any format/platform except email (which patreon sends me). Odds are I will miss your comics announcement on FacetwIttstagram - it's just statistics due to too much chaff.
2019-03-17 17:55:20 +0000 UTCJust a quick note for others who don't use Instagram BUT do use a feed reader (like I do): you can make Instagram pages into RSS feeds, so you don't need an IG account to easily follow for new content. I did a quick search a few weeks ago and discovered this (because I ended my relationship with Facebook and didn't want to restart it via IG), so I'm now adding them when I discover someone has an account.
