This inktober is gonna be a tough one for me this year! The book I'm working on is going to be very environment-heavy, and environments are NOT my forte. So I'm going to practice drawing houses, rooms, and other scenes for the rest of the month, mostly from Shepherdstown.
This is the house that inspired the very book I'm writing, so it seemed fitting to start here. This is me drawing it how I normally would - clumsily, impatiently, and with a brush pen. My goal is to draw places like this simply, gracefully, and with a brush pen (although I may give up on this particular brush pen - it's a Kuretake Zig "Clean Color Real Brush" and it is GREAT, but it's also unforgiving!).
In the meantime, here are some process shots of the new header image & avatar I drew in celebration of finally starting this book! I may not be a whiz at drawing backgrounds, but I can still draw a human and a cat pretty alright!

These were both mainly drawn with my go-to tools: a Zebra extra fine brush pen and Copic warm grey markers. If I can't make those Zig brushes work, I'll probably go back to these old standbys!
