Art Night/Cat Night

I started hosting a private Art Night event at my house on Friday nights this year, and it's done wonders for my a) social life and b) happiness, which c) might be the same thing. I've learned in the last few years that I'm not made up of 100% introvert, and that a lot of my depression through my thirties has stemmed from a lack of human beings in my life (no offense to my cats).

Speaking of cats and humans, I spent last night's Art Night practicing drawing cartoon cats (there are so many of them!), and applying what I learned to drawing Ellie and Pip as cartoons, which I still struggle with. After I'd had enough of cat anatomy, I couldn't help turning them into the human versions of themselves. Ellie is a little less frumpy in real life, but Pip is spot-on. I think of him as a cat version of Bat Boy, with more energy.

We had a devil of a time trying to remember his name! Finally I looked up "Heavens to Mergatroid" and I stunned myself that I remembered the term (though, of course, was mildly embarrassed to find it spelled "Murgatroyd").

Snagglepuss! :)

I would if I didn't live in BFE 😂 one day!

Start one!! It's less of a pain in the ass than we convince ourselves it'll be (I put this off for WAY too long). I'm even starting a second, public one at a local restaurant next week, since I like my little private group and we're running out of elbow room at my dining room table. ;) I have a feeling it'll eventually run itself!

very cute. very UPA flat loveliness.

Ellie looks like the sort of girl I would try to chat up in college. She looks like she would own most of my favorite ska albums, many of them also on 10".

I see you snuck in some animated characters too! 🙃

These are brilliant! I feel like you could animate them!

One of the main things I miss about living in the city is the proximity to all my art friends and going on 'drawing dates'. I'm introverted as hell but those outings always recharged me and my artistic needs. They're very beneficial :)

LOOOOLL at thinking of Ellie as disappointed Dolly!

Danielle Corsetto

Per-awesome-fect! Biped Pip is just I'm running full speed through the house for no good reason because I can! Biped Ellie is Family Circus teenage Dolly hoping for the best but expecting to be disappointed as usual (or GWS Candy as a teen before she dyed her hair).

Ha, when I saw the second page Pip, I immediately thought Bat Boy!

I love these! Your cats look mighty fine alongside their cartoon cousins. It would be interesting to see their human counterparts make a guest appearance in a future project of yours.

It's hilarious that you said this! We just received our drawings from you, and the drawing of Pip on the surrounding cardboard made me say to Neal, "Aw, he reminds me so much of Bat Boy!" It completely came through in the drawing!
