Help create the GWS Omnibus!!

Hey, friends! As you may already know, the final, complete collection of GWS - in two giant books - is under way and scheduled to be available by the end of this year.

What you may NOT know is that I'm creating a few new strips to slip in here and there throughout the old strips!

I'm re-reading all 2,008 original strips now, making note of clarity &continuity changes that need to be made, and also noting where I could add an extra strip or twelve.

This is where I'd love your help: What kinds of new strips would you like to see?

What old story arcs would you like to see fleshed out a bit more? What kinds of strips did you love the most, that you might want to see more of? Were there any unanswered questions you had while reading GWS that you're just burning to have answered? Tell me below!

You don't have to be a patron of mine to comment; you just need a Patreon account. I decided to post this here so I can easily peruse your suggestions while I pluck away at the creation of this book (and so that my current patrons will see it).

And if you have any other ideas regarding the omnibus(es? omnibusi??) - extra content, format, size, cover - feel free to add those below, too! If you like an idea that's already been made in another comment, be sure to tap on the heart below that comment so that I know more than one person likes their idea.

Bonus round question for my patrons: Would you like me to share the bonus strips with you as I create them over the summer, or would you rather be surprised when you get the book? (I can always write "SPOILERS" in the topic of those posts if you'd rather be surprised!)

Thanks for your help, guys! I can't wait to make this book fulfill all your GWS dreams. :)

PS: in case you'd like a little help thinking up bonus strip topics, here's the full archive and table of contents for GWS!

Comments

I know this post was a while ago, and I'm not sure if you're still looking at the comments- but maybe Thea and Mimi going to Thea's dad's after a decoration session- showing us that they're doing all right.

That's an interesting point re: digital format! I'll probably forget you said this, but I'll try to remember to ask y'all about it again later so I can get everyone's feedback. Thanks!!

Another vote for seeing bonus comics here! My favorites are the ones that explore Jamie and Hazel's friendship and Jamie and Erin's relationship. (Like this one: http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-801/) And you didn't ask about format, but I really like PDFs or DRM-less EPUBS. (I don't have any free shelf space, but lots of free electronic space.) Thanks for letting us have a say!

Also would like to see them here, because even If I do get the omnibus I will have totally forgotten them.

Clearly, your pants were Mary Poppins. When someone needs them but doesn't want them, they appear; when someone wants them but no longer needs them, they move on.

HAHAHAHA!! I hadn't thought about Josh Who Had My Pants. Fun story behind that: my pal Josh was actually entered into my phone contacts that way several years ago when I first met him. I'd had to "regretfully decline" going to a friend's wedding because I had a caricature gig that day, and on my way home from the gig, I happened to drive through my hometown of Frederick, where the wedding had taken place. On my way through, my friend Tyler (no relation to the kid in the strip) saw me drive by, and texted me that I should stop in at the bar he was in - a bunch of the wedding guests had ended up there. I parked and joined them. They kept talking about going to some guy named Josh's parents' house nearby, because they had a pool, but all of these guys were pretty tanked. Suddenly I realized that the reason they'd coaxed me into the bar was to be their DD; I shrugged & obliged and stuffed them all into the safety of my station wagon. Once at Josh's house, we all stripped down to our undies and hopped into the pool (I don't think ANYONE had a swimsuit). Instead of going home that night, I ended up borrowing a dry tee shirt and shorts from my new friend Josh and crashed in an armchair. When I woke up the next morning and prepared to leave, I realized that my pants - which I'd left on a poolside chaise lounge - were no longer there. No one knew what'd happened to them, so I exchanged numbers with Josh and wore his clothes home, promising to get them back to him somehow and hoping he'd eventually find my pants. Unlike Hazel, I never saw those pants again. So Josh is still entered as Josh Who Has My Pants in my phone. The bonus ending to this story is that, at the time, he was dating a gal whom none of his friends approved of. When he received a package with the clothes some girl named Danielle had borrowed from him, apparently she broke up with him. Happy to do my part! :D

Noted!

Danielle Corsetto

Haha, noted!!

Aww, Carol. <3

Ahh good point!! Yeah, I'm excited about the idea of GWS fans reading the omnibus and going "WAIT... that wasn't in the originals!" Even if you read them here, it'll be a nice surprise to see the bonus strips in context. :)

Danielle Corsetto

On second thought, no. I want to save that one in case you ever need guest strips again. :)

And what about that guy who had Hazel's pants? As I recall, he had Hazel's pants. It was a brilliant story arc but I always felt like the story would have had more room to breathe if it were ever expanded beyond that one panel in that one strip.

I might have more appropriate thoughts later, but all I have now is this - https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/walkingdead/images/3/3f/Shut-up-and-take-my-money.jpg

Maybe more Jameson and Maureen? OH NO OKAY more Darren! Also, as a patron, I totally vote for posting the strips as you do them instead of waiting for the book :)

Ashlee

I don't have any specific suggestions for what I'd like to see, but I'd love to see them over the summer as they get created. I'm terribly impatient about waiting for surprises.

Christina

Can we see a bit more of Hazel's mom?

Ali Grotkowski

I like seeing bonus content here. By the time I got the books (if I get the books which seems likely if they're affordable and would fit on my shelves and last well) I would have forgotten how they fit together and therefore they would be even awesomer in the context of the omnibuses!
