The Fastest Poses (Figure Drawing)

The drawing sessions here at the Drawing Academy in Viborg have the fastest poses I've ever been challenged to draw! We start out with a TON of 30-second poses, move on to 1-minute poses, 2 minutes, maybe 3, and then break and start over with 30 seconds again.

At the end we'll do a 5 minute, which is always what I want in the beginning, but by the time we get to it I'm so revved up I just want to keep going fast!

So here's most of my drawings from tonight, all done with black colored pencil (you can see I tried bringing an ink brush in, but quickly gave up on it!). Final figure drawing group meets on Thursday, so happy birthday to me! I'll share those later this week. :)

Heh. I meant my surprise might be because I'm not an artist. I mean that someone's style may always be present, no matter how far along in the process the art is, but my naive, non-artistic brain thinks that the early stages would be like amorphous clay, with the style coming out as it gets closer to being finished.

David Akers

That's great to hear! Nah, being an artist is no prerequisite for "seeing" someone's professional style in their hobby work. :)

Danielle Corsetto

YES. Some kid next to me was just... I don't know how she was making what she was making. She was using pastel and her "whatever" work was beyond my "best" work. So inspiring!!

Danielle Corsetto

I'm always surprised how much of your style comes through even at the beginning. I'm sure it's just because I'm no artist, so I'm naive about such things. :)

David Akers

Echoing others ... amazing how much movement / emotion there is in these fast sketches. Fab!

Augh this was absolutely my favorite part of being in Viborg. I wanna start something similar in Portland, but there was also so much to be gained by the fact that the students modeling were ALSO animators, and knew how to inhabit character and dynamic lines really well. These are gorgeous.

Lucy Bellwood

I bet that helps!! But man, these animation students can positively draw circles around me. I'm usually the fast one; not so in this circle!!

Danielle Corsetto

Wawww thanks! The first 45 minutes is NONSTOP and nobody gets up (and we work in silence), so there's no chance for me to sharpen the pencil, and I kinda think that's a good thing!

Danielle Corsetto

Really awesome especially at that speed. I'm sure your caricature experience doesn't hurt with the speed.

Oh man the lines you got with those fast ones! I think the 2nd 1-minute is my fave tho. :)
