Hey y'all! Just a quick post (apologies to those who follow me on Twitter and Instagram and have already seen this): here's the curriculum for next week's class! Anybody in the $20+ Education Level will get the light version of these lessons (by "light" I mean I won't be lecturing you for 6 hours ;):
Lesson 1: The anatomy of the traditional comic strip; an introduction humor writing and pacing. Considering your audience and format.
Lesson 2: Absurdity, silence, and surprise; more on pacing and comedic timing. Indirect storytelling and visual humor - "less is more."
Lesson 3: Clarity and brevity; editing a script, word balloon placement, composition within the strip.
Lesson 4: Telling the long story with short comic strips (ongoing characters and stories). The Sunday strip.
Lesson 5: Preparing your characters and basic plot; turnarounds, character sheets, light worldbuilding.
Final project: Complete 5 daily strips using the same (at least 2) characters, plus one Sunday strip.
The class I'm teaching in Denmark is JAM PACKED (6 hours every weekday, including 2 hours of homework for students every night) and I'll be very busy planning for it, so chances are I'll be leaking this out over the next few weeks rather than every night, but I think it'll be much better for y'all since I doubt you have time to do 2 hours of homework every night!! ;) This will give you a bit more time to work on the projects, if you'd like to take part in them.
We'll be using the hashtag #danielleteaches again, in case you'd like to share your work on Instagram and check in to see what your classmates are doing!
Either way, I'll be sure to wrap things up by April so that you can drop your pledges back down at that point!
