New Goal: Making Comics

Welp, that's really it! I'm ready to make comics again, this time without ads. I've thought it over for months, and I think Patreon is the best way to do it.

If you're already a patron, you'll see every non-fiction comic I make, assuming there are enough pledges that I can reach my goal. If the goal can't be reached I'll probably find another way to pay my bills while I work on my next project, but this is the most fun option, and gives me an excuse to draw monthly comics for you. :)

If you're not already a patron, you can pledge as little as $1 per month and still see the comics (plus a bunch of other things). $3 includes a daily re-release of one of my old strips (right now we're revisiting my college strip, Ramblers), $5 includes all of my figure drawings, and $20 is my educational level, which is mostly process photos and any classes I'm currently teaching.

As long as the goal is reached, I'll make a minimum of two autbio comics per month, but it'll probably be more than that. I have a lot of dumb stories to tell. ;)

What a great time to become a patron! :D

Yo. Welcome back. If you ever do guest comics again. Lemme know. I'll jump on board in a second.

Very excited at this news. Will be great to see more of your work.

Yeah, I'm going to be trying that next week, once I have the first strip up (I'll make it public so people can see what I have in mind for these strips) . The last thing I want to do is put the burden on my hardcore fans; y'all have been keeping my head above water for two years now!! There are nearly 15,000 subscribers to my newsletter, so I'm hoping that'll help (I'll be e-mailing everyone shortly). I'd much rather have a ton of people pledging $1 and enjoying the strips than making you guys feel like you need to up your pledges!

If you want to raise significantly your income from patreons you need to reach for people outside your hardcore fan base. Beside an unconditional love for you and your monetary well-being, there's currently not reason to give more than 5$ if someone is not interested by the education level. And since your most dedicated fans are probably already pledging...

I think it's a good idea to adjust your pledge levels before the push to get some attention to your patreon. Keep Luke around, he's a good counselor. ;)

Oh, and I took a smart tip from my boyfriend to hold off on announcing this new comic more broadly until I have a first strip up, which should be in a few days. So we'll see how it goes next week when I reach beyond Twitter and Instagram. :)

I COMPLETELY AGREE, and I've been thinking about this! I wanted to get rid of the $20 one entirely (or at least drop it to $10), but I talked to my rep and apparently it would cancel ALL of the pledges in that category. Which... I think is ridiculous, and that they should fix it!! But I'm not sure what to do about it for now. On the other hand, people can enter a pledge at any amount they want - I've done that with artists I love whose lower tier is $3, but to whom I want to pledge $5, so just change the amount to $5. :)

Did you think about adding some pledges? The gap between 5 and 20$ is quite large and not everyone is willing to spend more than required. I guess it's not easy to think of rewards that are not too time-consuming but I think it could help raising your monthly riches.

Very excited about this!

So happy I just started pledging! And so happy you will be making comics again! You are so good at it, and I've missed getting to see your work.

Also upped my pledge, I know you'll reach your goal – all the best! <3

I am so very excited! Upped my pledge!

Emelin Ringuette

So excited for this! I hope you reach your goal!!! That said, I'd also be A-Ok with seeing ads on your new comic website if you need more time to reach that level here on Patreon!

I love this story style with lots of little sketch pictures, good luck with your new plans
