Ramblers #1: Lowrider
Added 2017-01-02 01:35:00 +0000 UTCHappy Brand-New Year!! Here's the first installment of Ramblers, the kinda-terrible strip I did in college for publication in our student newspaper, The Picket .
I'm allowed to say "kinda-terrible" because you can't even really tell that's a lowrider. I was still learning how to draw a lot of different things back then (and I'll be learning how to draw cars for the rest of my life).
I do enjoy the turtle detail.
Ramblers is an alternate-reality strip that happens to star a number of real actual nonfiction people I went to college with. Please make the acquaintance of Alternate Reality Danielle (first planel, left) and Alternate Reality Val (first panel, right). Pretty much none of the things that happen to these people in the strip happened to them in real life.
I'm making this first post public so that everyone knows just what kind of special cartoonist learning curve you'll be privy to if you're in the $3+ level over the next few months. You've been warned!
That said, it does get better. In places. Here and there. If you wanna learn what I was like in my early twenties, you will find out fast by reading this strip. ;)

Y'know, I hadn't considered that only locals would know what Sheetz is! I didn't really notice any near my home growing up, so when someone asked if we should go to Sheetz after I moved to WV for college, I wasn't sure if it was a sexual innuendo or not! ;) My boyfriend is from an area in western PA that's close to Altoona, and always follows his hometown's name with "near Altoona, the birthplace of Sheetz." He says this to friends of mine from far away, and I always laugh that he seems to think they'll all know what he's talking about. :p
