I love this cold open. Definitely sets an eerie and tense atmosphere.
Alcoholism!
Bartelby. I’ve heard that name before, but don’t know the stories associated with it. Gonna have to look into that.
R.I.P. story about the silver eyes, though maybe it’s for the best. Besides, we’ll likely be getting that soon from Maria herself.
Oh my god I love Maria. The sass of this woman. I swear, I aspire to have her confidence and attitude in my old age… well, assuming I get there.
No one even fed the fire. Good job, Qrow. What if something happened? I swear, I hope they address his alcoholism and how he’s not pulling his weight for the team. Maybe it’ll surface in jealousy with Maria becoming Ruby’s mentor before he’s kidnapped or shapes up?
The first time I saw this, I thought this was a nightmare Ruby was having created by the Grimm (Then I thought it’d be similar to the Mind Flayer from Stranger Things).
Ruby going to the well and seeing something gives me Outlast 2 flashbacks.
YES. RUBY BEING PROACTIVE PROTAGONIST. BLESS.
The drawing of the Apathy is honestly scarier than the Apathy itself. Though that’s not really much of an insult because holy shit these zombies are terrifying.
This entire situation gives me major Bottom of the Well vibes (By far the freakiest dungeon in Ocarina of Time, even more than the Shadow Temple if you ask me). So in this case, I guess the Apathy are Redeads.
Though I don’t think they’re the intro Grimm. If you look closely, the intro Grimm’s hands are colored and formed differently, and the Apathy can’t stretch their hands like the Nuckelavee. The Apathy might just be a red herring to make us feel safe til the real Eldritch abomination is revealed.
I resonate with Blake going “It’s fine” as an Apathy readies to slit her throat.
“GIRL I’VE ONLY HAD ONE CONVERSATION WITH!”
So Maria can’t see color. Explains why she never brought up the silver eye thing. But that also begs the question why she stayed behind on the train.
Gillian and I had a crack theory Maria is not only the Day of the Dead and Yoda, but also the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood’s story, disguised as the Grandma. Perhaps she could sense the power and wants Ruby’s eyes for herself, having lost her own long ago? I hope not. It’d be amazing and compelling but I love her too much please don’t hurt me show.
“We’re leaving you idiot!” God bless you, Maria.
I live for Yang grabbing Blake’s hand to get her to safety. Bumblebee for life.
Yang shouting for Oscar gave me chills.
I also live for Weiss setting fire to the house. What a fucking icon. I can’t believe Weiss single handedly, for herself and her girlfriend, destroyed alcoholism.
“I set fire… to the Grimm.”
“Weiss set a fire and she burned down the house.”
Yeah, sure. Let’s just keep some Grimm beneath our farm to chill everyone out. Not like it’ll result in everyone’s deaths.
R.I.P. that Roman and Neo theory, though. I mean, there’s still a very small chance it’s possible, but if it is, I wish Ruby at least recognized Roman and maybe Neo for just a moment.
At first I thought the piano melody here was “Rising” (In my initial reaction recording). It’s not. It’s actually “Miracle.”
Having seen the preview for the next episode, we’re getting Cinder and Neo, and hopefully we’ll be getting Adam, since he’s been missing since Chapter 1. Perhaps he’ll indeed go after Ghira’s brotherhood, running into Cinder and Neo in the process.
Though I also think Chapter 7 will dedicate some time to Maria’s backstory. Since this’ll be the midseason finale, it’s gotta be something big.
