Now while taking notes I’ve already seen this episode, and… I have many feelings. But we shall carry on as usual.
I love that humming whenever Salem appears. Honestly gives me Legend of Zelda vibes.
Ozma instead of Ozpin, namely because of the Ozma character from the Wizard of Oz books.
Interesting all the incarnations are voiced either by Aaron or Shannon.
I feel it’s odd we skipped over Salem’s father, but honestly, it didn’t really mattered compared to the rest of the story. I still feel we shouldn’t emphasized her desire for freedom, tying that into the gods controlling her fate.
And cue the obligatory “Happily ever after” twist.
I love the designs of both the Domains of Light and Darkness. Specifically I love the field of golden grass.
Okay, we’re all pretty sure the Domain of Darkness is on the nameless dragon continent northwest of Sanus. Now it looks like it probably is since it’s in the shape of a western dragon, which is the form the God of Darkness takes. So since Anima is in the shape of an eastern dragon, perhaps the Domain of Light is here as well? Perhaps we’ll come across it later this volume?
Though I did have a random thought that what if that’s just to trick us, and the Domain of Darkness is actually on Anima? It would kinda explain why the villains are able to move from Salem’s domain to Mistral so quickly.
Fuck the petty-ass gods, my lord. Also they’re not Faunus, they’re supernatural cosmic entities. The only reason for the antlers and horns, aside from making the designs more interesting, is the symbolism of the holy and demonic.
“THAT’S NOT FAIR.” Can we make this a meme?
AAAAAAND GOD OF DARKNESS BODY HORROR OH GODS.
Honestly his body looks like it’s made entirely of jelly.
“Everything’s going to be okay.” “I WANT TO DIE.”
The gods are literally just toying with Ozma’s life the poor guy. And this is how Salem was traumatized.
I still wish we got more fights in this episode. Specifically Salem against the gods, Salem and her army against them, and Ozma versus Salem. Also still bitter we didn’t get a “Divide” prelude.
Immortality is not a blessing. It’s a curse. Change my mind.
Don’t I’d rather die than be immortal.
AH ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. That got dark. Though it didn’t leave a wound. I’m thinking that pool gave Salem an infinite supply of Aura, so her body heals itself immediately. I’m just wondering how the sword has no blood on it, when later an axe used to try and hurt her does.
Okay but the image of the armies running up against the gods, with that music… oh so good.
Thanks, God of Light, for not even trying to stop your brother from committing planetary genocide.
NO, NOT THE 2D MATTE PAINTINGS.
I love that this episode just destroyed all the theories about the shattered moon at once. It’s literally broken because a petty god yeeted himself off the planet I am deceased. Though I’m pretty sure it’s what gave humanity Dust. Either that or it’s the remains of dead people, which… yikes.
“It is merely a remnant of what it once was.” GODDAMMIT BARB.
So we’ve now seen the other Relics. Creation is a scepter, Destruction is a sword, and Choice is a crown. I wonder what powers the other Relics have, and their guardian spirits.
Interesting Choice looks similar to Glynda’s crown symbol. I wonder… seriously, guys, just get her a new voice actress. You did it for Mercury.
The fact Oz was cool with having a goth girlfriend… bless.
THEIR DAUGHTERS ARE THE MAIDENS. Well not really. They can use magic, and they seem to be based on the seasons, but they are very likely super dead. I think they just gave Oz the idea for the Maidens later.
I’m still confused as to what Salem wants to replace humanity with. My boyfriend said she wanted to replace the gods, but the way the sentence is structured suggests that the “them” she uses is referring to humans.
But I still don’t get what she wants. Why does she even have henchmen if her goal is to destroy the world? And what does she want the Relics for if not to destroy the world?
When you’re tryin’ to sneak out past curfew and you know your mama about to whoop yo’ ass.
Interesting the hipster douchebag’s family kinda has silvery eyes. I wonder…
“There is no beating Salem.” Fuck my life.
But Jinn simply said “You can’t,” as in either Ozpin himself can’t destroy Salem, and / or Salem can’t be simply destroyed. Perhaps it’ll be Ruby because of her silver eyes. Not to mention her power could potentially blast the Grimm ichor out of Salem and return her to normal. The gods said she’d pass into the afterlife once she understood the balance of life and death, so perhaps that’s what we need to do.
Also confirmation of the afterlife! Now I’m even more sure it’ll be referenced again, potentially for Grandma Calavera’s Semblance.
