DuckTales Review Notes
Added 2018-09-04 01:24:06 +0000 UTCEpisode 1, “Woo-oo!”:
- Perfect title.
- Love the intro with the bird.
- Great. Now I’m gonna wonder why certain animals are anthropomorphic and others aren’t.
- That was Donald’s usual blue suit. Huh. Though I must say he rocks black.
- Poor Donald. He is me.
- The triplets all have distinct personalities and voices. Thank god.
- Do we ever learn what happened to that babysitter?
- And Dewey, a.k.a. The actual main character.
- “If we want to keep our home afloat.” PUNS.
- “You’re finally gonna sell us.” Bless you, Louie.
- I love this show being kinda meta. It doesn’t take over everything else, but it’s a fun little addition.
- Damn vultures. SYMBOLISM.
- I love the animation and art style for this series. It looks like a comic book.
- LAUNCHPAD. I love Launchpad.
- The triplets’ reaction to Scrooge being their great uncle gives me life.
- Can we just appreciate David Tennant as Scrooge?
- “I wasn’t talking to you.” OOOOOH.
- I love Mrs. Beakley.
- Do children still like marbles? OOH. THAT’S KIND OF A PARALLEL TO MAGICA LATER ON IN “Shadow War”!
- “Huey. Louie. The third one.”
- Of course he counted the damn marbles.
- WEBBY. A.k.a. Duck Mable.
- “Who’s the evil triplet?” “Louie.”
- “If we say yes, will you let us live?” “Good one, new best friend!” Me making friends.
- “This is because some children made fun of you, isn’t it?” God bless you, Beakley.
- “I am an am-now.”
- “I’m gonna eat a hamburger.” “We can bring you one.” “You really are my best friend.” This gives me so much life.
- “Uncle Donald has never done anything cool.” On the one hand, no cuz he’s gone on adventures to save the Disney worlds. On the other hand, HE NEVER CASTS CURE IN TIME SO MAYBE YOU HAVE A POINT.
- Is that Roxanne in the waiting room?
- Donald freaking out is golden.
- Deus Excalibur. Brilliant name, lemme just say.
- “Headless man-horse. That one feels self-explanatory.”
- “I should’ve been more specific!” And now the horse’s dreams have come true. God bless.
- It’s just the garage. Oh my actual god.
- The garden hose of destiny.
- The first episode would not complete without a goddamn dragon.
- “I’m gonna go eat a hamburger.”
- “To be clear, I’m gonna go catch the dragon.” BLESS YOU, WEBBY.
- “I’m a pilot.” Launchpad is me trying to find the perfect place to plug my skills.
- “Since when is Launchpad a pilot.” THE META.
- “He swims in money, I knew it!”
- THE INTRO. Honestly, I prefer the new one to the old one, but it doesn’t matter cuz MY GOD IT IS SO FRIGGIN’ CATCHY.
- It legit has the comic book motif. Brilliance.
- Oh Glomgold, you piece of shit.
- So I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Glomgold is corrupt capitalism and Scrooge is actual hard work capitalism.
- Louie telling Webby to die. Oh thank god the triplets each stand out on their own.
- And Huey is all about structure and organization, while Dewey wants to go on crazy adventures and stand out from his brothers as the middle triplet.
- Yep. This show is so damn meta.
- Donald cleverly saving his family.
- Though odd that Glomgold wouldn’t recognize Donald. They’re rivals, so if Donald was Scrooge’s sidekick, wouldn’t Glomgold recognize him? Or… you know what, whatever, this is a nitpick.
- Very clever way to show the ruins are upside down with the buzzsaws on the ceiling, and the snake pit on the ceiling.
- Subina. My god.
- Again, Dewey trying to show off, with Donald saving his stupid ass.
- Yes, Scrooge. Smart work is the best route. Hard work alone won’t do much without strategy.
- The Spear of Selene. FORESHADOWING.
- Nice having Dewey figure out this place is upside down.
- YEAH, WEBBY, KICK ASS. I love that she kicks the most ass. I mean, she is the granddaughter of a spy.
- This ending interview is legit telling the audience that DuckTales is back. META.
- AND HINTS AT AN ONGOING STORY ABOUT THE TRIPLET’S MOM DELLA. BLESS.
- It’s basically keeping the episodic adventure stories from the original series while adding an ongoing story in the background, like most modern animated series. I approve.
Episode 2, “Daytrip of Doom!”:
- Foreshadowing of Ma Beagle. Excellent.
- Oh god the house is a war zone.
- “Don’t yell at your target before you fire.” YES, SCROOGE. THANK YOU.
- Oh my god I love Webby.
- “You’re not a player. You’re a pawn.” WEBBY IS AZULA.
- Oh my god she made a character specifically for this.
- “This is no foyer. This is a tomb.”
- How in the hell do Ms. Beakley’s rules involve a chart?
- “I answer to no one!”
- Awe, poor Webby feeling left out. But I mean, at least the boys wanna keep her involved.
- Minus Louie, but uh… to be fair, she did try to kill them.
- I fucking adore Webby.
- Funso’s Fun Zone. I must admit, expert use of walrus teeth for the entrance.
- “Ball pits are for babies.” And diseases.
- OH MY GOD WAS WEBBY ABOUT TO KILL A MAN WITH THAT FORK?
- I’m all for this little rivalry between Beakley and Donald.
- Donald will prob kill something before the end of the episode.
- Aaaaand he started a pool fire.
- “I am both puking and puking!”
- YES, WEBBY. KICK ASS.
- The fact Dewey was more concerned with the machine than Funso.
- Poor Webby needs a hug. She’s just trying to feel like she belongs.
- YAY, THE TRIPLETS ARE BEING NICE TO HER. GOD BLESS.
- Welp that’s gone now.
- “What is a Funso?”
- YEAH WEBBY TO THE RESCUE.
- “Normal’s overrated.” YESSSS.
- “I’m gonna break every bone in her body.”
- “It’s time to mark your territory.” Oh dear.
- OH SHIT. DONALD GETTING OVERPROTECTIVE. I’M HERE FOR IT.
- YES, WEBBY. OH MY GOD THIS IS SO TERRIFYING I LOVE IT.
Episode 3, “The Great Dime Chase”:
- And showcasing Louie as the lazy one looking for shortcuts, whereas Scrooge gets shit done through hard and smart work.
- I hate people like Louie so much.
- THE PLOT HATH RETURNED.
- So Scrooge literally murdered a mailman to cover his tracks. That… does not surprise me at all.
- Have I mentioned my love for this opening? I actually really like the shortened version.
- Behold the archive. I fucking love this extra librarian.
- Little do people know Scrooge’s Semblance to swim through gold is hereditary, only inherited by the greedy-ass Louie.
- Fuckin’ vultures.
- Oh Gyro. Greetings. I remember hating you.
- Li’l Bulb. I love it.
- So apparently Gyro keeps making evil machines. Lovely.
- SCROOGE BACKSTORY. EMOTION. YEAH, LOUIE, YOU DONE FUCKED UP.
- Oh my god Louie watching YouTube how to videos. God bless.
- “It is not for us to understand the ways of the archives.” “THAT IS LITERALLY YOUR JOB.”
- “The Unicorn Illuminati.” SHIT. HE’S ONTO US.
- Wait, why even have these vultures if they’re such dicks?
- “You shall become one with the archives!” I fucking love this librarian.
- I have to respect her organization skills.
- “Look, they’re all mad as loons, and if you fire them, they’re definitely going to seek revenge.”
- THE NUMBER ONE DIME. IT HOLDS PLOT IMPORTANCE.
- Yeah I do not fucking trust Gyro at all.
Episode 4, “The Beagle Birthday Massacre!”:
- Webby laughing. “I don’t know why we’re laughing!” Me.
- Dolphins are fucking evil, lemme just say.
- LENA. MY GIRL.
- “Paris is like here but fancier.”
- Webby and Lena’s friendship is adorable. I live for it.
- Why do I get the feeling these are all actual variants of the Beagle Boys that have existed in some form?
- “We almost died!” “We almost died!” “We’re gonna die!”
- Is it bad I kinda ship Lena and Webby? They really remind me of Max and Chloe from Life is Strange, but if Max had a personality.
- Traumatized Louie is my aesthetic.
- Oh my god Lena called them out for being clones in the original series. BLESS.
- Oh great. The creepy circus Beagles. Wonderful.
- YES. USE THEIR SELFISHNESS AGAINST THEM.
- AND THE PROMISE OF PLOT WITH MAGICA DESPELL. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
Episode 5, “Terror of the Terra-firmians”:
- And we’re continuing the Lena plot. God bless continuity.
- Awe, poor Launchpad.
- Awe, urban exploring. It’s fucking terrifying.
- “That’s what they want you to think.” “Who’s they?” “Exactly.”
- God bless characters being smart enough to use their phones as flashlights.
- And again, great writing giving the triplets their own unique traits and personalities. Huey is incredibly skeptical and analytical, and loves the structure of his… scouting thing. I forget the name of it. Apologies.
- AND HE KNOWS SCIENCE.
- The terries and the firmies. I can’t even.
- “I’m totally gonna sacrifice myself in the name of the rebellion.” Gotta love dark humor between besties.
- “Have there always been three of them?”
- “Maybe you can drive the train without crashing it?” “Eh?”
- CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOR LENA. BLESS.
- Is it me, or do the terra-firmians look like potatoes?
- AWE, THEY’RE SO CUTE.
- The “bill faced creatures.”
- Magica is terrifying. I love her.
Episode 6, “The House of the Lucky Gander!”:
- Obviously our purpose in the universe is to eat hot dogs.
- Awe, poor Donald.
- Bail at twenty dollars? On the one hand, my son is worth more than that. On the other hand, I would like Donald to not go to prison.
- At least Scrooge also hates Gladstone.
- “We’re all gonna die! I’m wasting my life!”
- God this opening never gets old.
- Daw, Launchpad’s going on an adventure all on his own. Lowkey wish that was an episode. It might’ve been that I forgot about, but PLEASE LORD.
- Pepe looking back as Gladstone says he needs help. FORESHADOWING.
- God I hate people like Gladstone.
- Goddammit, Huey. It’s just water. Get it together.
- Okay but I would like to know why Donald and Gladstone have opposite lucks. Like did their mother cross a witch at a county fair or something?
- Oh wait, they probably did. Magica DeSpell.
- Free pizza for life. I would KILL for that.
- Huey screaming in the distance fucking killed me.
- OH MY GOD A FOUNTAIN OF CHOCOLATE. I mean realistically in a public space it’d be disgusting but HOLY SHIT GOD BLESS.
- Holy shit the entire building is made of cards that is so damn cool.
- Welp, good luck, Donald.
- I am getting viscerally angry at Gladstone.
- YES, LOUIE. ENCOURAGE YOUR UNCLE.
- Holy shit Donald went nuts. I LOVE IT.
- Scrooge knows that this guy will kick Donald out in like two seconds. Genius.
- Make that three.
- OH MY GOD CAN WE SEE WHAT LAUNCHPAD WAS DOING?
- Wow. Good thing we didn’t go to the Golden Cricket Temple earlier. Boring.
Episode 7, “The Infernal Internship of Mark Beats!”:
- Uh… the line of division in this room is so weird.
- Oh, it’s a Billionaire’s Club. That is why.
- I hate Mark more than Glomgold. Wow.
- “Wait for it.” Yeah, I am waiting. For the intro. To save me from your shit music.
- The show does admittedly feel more lowkey than expected, but I assume it’s because they don’t wanna go over the top in their adventures right outta the gate, cuz then they’ll be screwed in later seasons.
- I can already tell this will likely be one of my less favorite episodes.
- Please dear god the second he becomes a billionaire let his business crash. Please.
- Okay who the hell let this Falcon guy in? Does this building have no security?
- WHERE DOES HE KEEP GETTING BACKUP PHONES?
- Is it bad I’m rooting for the bad guy?
- Oh my god he’s angry about getting coffee literally a minute early. Seriously? OH MAN I HATE THIS GUY.
- Aaaand Huey is broken. We’re all going to die.
- Nothing. At all. I want to fucking kill him. So. Bad.
- Oh look it’s Square ENIX getting us hyped for Kingdom Hearts 3 never showing up.
- MARK REALLY IS THE VILLAIN. Okay, Falcon, you can kill him now.
- I am rooting for the “villain.”
- The shark looks like it’s dying. Someone please save it.
- Seriously, Glomgold. You had tapes for your betrayal? Jeez.
- It’s 20 degrees cooler in this shade.
- Huey, you little genius.
- Everywhere needs better security, Dewey.
- NO. BUT WE MUST EXPOSE HIM.
- Thank you, Glomgold. For once.
Episode 8, “The Living Mummies of Toth-Ra!”:
- Hmm. I wonder if Toth from Nomad of Nowhere will be here now.
- “And that’s while you don’t scream while sinking in quicksand.” “Don’t tell me how to die!” Me.
- Awe, Huey lied to keep Dewey excited.
- NO. NOT WEBBY’S HAT.
- Oh great. A cult. WHY ARE THERE CULTS IN EVERY PIECE OF MEDIA I CONSUME?
- “If those are mummies, I’d hate to see daddies.” Not even gonna make a joke.
- Amunet seems chill. I like her.
- Those cows looks miserable. Someone help them. Please.
- Anywhere there’s money, Louie will be happy.
- “And that’s my hut, and that’s the public waste hole.” “Awfully close to each other.” “It does not smell great.” Welp, uh… that explains a lot.
- It’s kinda obvious from the start that the pharaoh is an animatronic, at least for me. Then again, this show could pull off an actual supernatural pharaoh.
- “Ooh, a kidney!”
- Amunet is so overdramatic, I’m here for it.
- The fact they’re willing to fight for freedom for burritos. God. Bless. FOOD IS ALWAYS THE KEY.
- “We must have Bor-Itos!”
- I paused it in just the right place.
- “I never thought I’d die on a pit of spikes. I mean, I always hoped.” THIS FUCKING SHOW.
- “We’re going to die down here.” THIS SHOW IS GOLD.
- “This is the dumbest rebellion I have ever been part of.”
- THIS EPISODE IS FILLED WITH SO MANY AMAZING QUOTES.
- OH GOD THE ACTUAL MUMMY WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE.
- Oh god the mummy dance I can’t breathe.
- THE BURRITO ROLLS WERE INDEED USEFUL.
Episode 9, “The Impossible Summit of Mt. Neverrest!”:
- I remember coming up with the Everest pun many years ago. So… I will see you in court, DuckTales.
- “Waiting for Santa Claus-” “That man is not allowed in my home. He knows what he did.” Um… what?
- AWE, even their winter outfits are different from each other besides color. GOD BLESS THIS SHOW.
- Aaaaand man has ruined this as well. Great.
- Webby is so adorable I love her.
- I do not trust this shady merchant guy. He looks like a cult leader. OH GREAT. MULTIPLE CULTS.
- Aaaand they have the horror music. Jesus.
- That is a very fucked up bunny.
- Launchpad is a gift to the world.
- Just watching this stresses me out. God I hate heights.
- Is this mountain cursed to make us go in circles?
- HOLY SHTI THIS PLACE IS CURSED AGAINST SCROOGE.
- THEIR HEADS DON’T HAVE EYES. AND THIS IS A KID SHOW.
- Yay for the kids having a legit point against the adults. But you can totally get why Scrooge feels this way.
- I’m just waiting for one of those wormholes to send them falling off the mountain.
- THE WORMHOLES ARE A METAPHOR. THIS SHOW IS BRILLIANT.
- Such a great lesson. Sometimes you really do just have to know when to walk away, and there’s no shame in it.
- YES, LOUIE. EXPOSE THIS HOE.
- Oh god can you imagine walking through town all chill and then in a split second you’re at the peak of a mountain? I’d prob die.
Episode 10, “The Spear of Selene!”:
- THE PLOT. IT HATH RETURNED.
- Actually it does make sense to put most of the filler towards the beginning to keep the pace up in the latter half.
- A scorpion with a lion head. That’s… horrifying.
- Ithaquack? PUNS.
- “Stop assuming I know things. Baseline: assume I know nothing.”
- Storkules. So basically Heracles / Hercules. Let’s hope he won’t fly into a homicidal rampage and murder his family. Then again, this is prob based on the Disney version.
- Oh hey, Zeus, what’s up?
- Little do these children know that this isn’t the Spear of Selene Della meant.
- Webby, if you could not make Dewey paranoid that his mother might’ve been evil, that would be great.
- “No, twasn’t!” I’m using that now.
- So did Zeus just… murder everyone on the island with a storm?
- “A little salty.” DAMN THIS SHADE.
- Can we just appreciate that Scrooge is willing to call out a god for being petty as shit? Also god, this is surprisingly a more accurate depiction of Zeus than the Disney Hercules movie.
- “You’re not going anywhere.” Your response is either “WOO-HOO” or “Awe, fooey.” There is nothing in-between; no despair.
- What a kind sea monster.
- Un small child. She’s adorable. But I do not trust her.
- Can we appreciate - again - Storkules having so much respect for Donald? It’s so sweet.
- Poor Donald. He can’t get over whatever happened to Della.
- “It’s so adorable I just wanna slay it!”
- Webby could you not keep making Dewey anxious?
- “No good ever came from a creepy child singing.”
- Called that this kid was not trustworthy.
- DONALD TO THE RESCUE.
- Awe, I love Duey and Webby’s friendship so much.
- God I love Selene.
- Oh god the siren’s voice horrifies me.
Episode 11, “Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!”:
- And cue creepy-ass music box.
- YO IS THIS DARKWING DUCK? YES PLEASE.
- Can we get that reboot next, by the by?
- Hoorah for this show taking shots at ‘60s Batman for horrific issues with keeping the actors safe.
- Oh god Launchpad driving. Lord help us all. I BET HE’S ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO DON’T USE THEIR GODDAMN TURN SIGNALS.
- I still do not trust Gyro.
- This poor anxious intern is me.
- I will agree on his hatred for Mark.
- Launchpad needs a hug.
- Okay so basically Mark just made a robot in lieu of an actual self-driving car? And does Uber not exist in this world?
- God I wanna knock out Mark’s teeth.
- The Manhorse!
- A laboratory? You mean… A LAVATORY? HA. But no seriously it’s a lavatory.
- GASP. MARK WAS USING GYRO’S TECHN. HOLY SHIT.
- This poor intern means so well but oh god.
- Child locks! But we are neither children nor safe!
- Awe, Scrooge congratulating Launchpad. My heart.
Episode 12, “The Missing Links of Moorshire!”:
- Behold, golf. The most boring sport known to man. And also the whitest.
- Okay where is Mrs. Beakley? I miss her so damn much.
- Awe, Webby wants to be so encouraging.
- “MY EYES DRY OUT VERY EASILY!”
- Awe. That tiger man seemed so nice.
- Webby is so extra I love her. Fucking fireworks.
- Please let this episode not be boring please.
- Um… how has Glomgold combusted playing golf?
- OH THANK GOD. SOMETHING MYSTICAL. ANCIENT GOLF RUNES.
- Oh please don’t be a golf cult.
- OH GOD CREEPY PONIES PLAYED BY MLP ACTORS. IT’S THE END.
- Oh wait no they’re kelpies. THIS SHOW IS SO SMART.
- “Did we die? Are we in Webby Heaven?” I love this show.
- “Ignore the murder ponies.”
- IT’S A PETRIFYING MIST. OH GOD.
- “You just said all that, didn’t you?” Me trying to be ominous.
- “Not everything is a life lesson!” THE META.
- Did Louie just start chopping off parts of Glomgold’s body? Jeezuz.
- HOW IS HE CHOKING ON GOLF BALLS?
Episode 13, “McMystery at McDuck McManor!”
- “Webby, a crossbow? How inefficient.” Me as a parent / grandparent.
- Honestly, I’m not a fan of birthdays. Generally I don’t like having the spotlight.
- Says the fucking YouTuber.
- Oh Dewey, you are… so fucking weird.
- Nik Nokturne. Apparently he’s based on an actual person named Nick Nocturne. Holy shit, this show is so meta.
- Welp, that disembodied voice was terrifying.
- Dewey is now trapped in the DJ costume. Oh dear.
- Scrooge owns the land? Jeez.
- It’s a murder mystery. God bless.
- I see a chandelier, I sing “Chandelier.” Simple.
- Oh great. Mark Beaks. God I hate him.
- Duckworth. Foreshadowing.
- I wonder if he was in the original show, in which case… OH GOD THE HEARTS OF THE ORIGINAL FANS.
- OH SHIT THE LOSER BEAGLE IS ACTUALLY USING SUPERNATURAL FORCES.
- And now there’s a literal fucking demon.
- Scrooge is the true mastermind. GOD BLESS. HE’S ME.
- “I preferred it when you were dead.” God bless you, Mrs. Beakley.
Episode 14, “Jaw$!”
- Okay, first off… brilliant episode title. Genius.
- LENA. WHERE YOU BEEN, GIRL?
- Oh Donald. I never understand you.
- Oh my god what the hell? Did they raid a giant’s castle?
- YES THE INTERVIEW EPISODE. “What part of Ireland are you from?”
- Though with Roxanne? So it’s not the same Roxanne? Confusion.
- Webby is so adorable. I love her and Lena’s friendship.
- I love Magica so much. She’s so much fun, and the shadow helps keep her a mystery with a foreboding presence.
- Webby you goddamn rebel.
- Oh great. They’re gonna summon a demon now. Might as well have a Ouija board.
- Damn the girls kick ass. I love it.
- I mean Beakley’s right on the press being vultures looking for the next big story.
- Welp Dewey’s already dead.
- At least Huey and Louie had the sense to bail.
- Goddamn, Webby is good at understanding this shit.
- Launchpad was ready. I love his sense of protection over Dewey.
- I was about to ask who was still piloting the plane, but uh… then it crashed. I died.
- “Show Tiffany some respect.” IT’S KEVIN’S COUSIN, SISTER OF THE SEA DRAGON PHILIP.
- “FACTS COME FROM ME WHEN I’M NERVOUS.” YAY CHARACTERIZING THE TRIPLETS.
- Welp, bye other triplets.
- “OH NO, DEWEY’S BROTHERS.” Was that a shot at the original show?
- THAT IS NOT ROXANNE. I FEEL BETRAYED.
- Quick request, can we get a DuckTales Reboot Universe, continuing with DarkWing Duck? Please?
- Launchpad: Crashing into Vengeance 2018 into a Theater Near You. (Hopefully Not Into You)
- When Scrooge is fighting for Scotland’s uniqueness compared to the rest of the U.K.
- “Friendship is the greatest magic of all!” “That’s not how magic works” Taking shots at that trope day in and day out. Before we actually use it for serious. But to be fair, when done right, magic of friendship is awesome. When it’s actually for the character arcs and is earned, unlike when it’s used cheaply as a plot device and nothing more.
- “You sentimental fool!” Magica rubbing off on Lena unfortunately.
- OH MY GOD WEBBY. Excellent turning point for Lena.
- “We’re friends, you beautiful idiot!” I’m not crying I swear.
- YES. SHE’S USING THE FRIENDSHIP SPELL OF HER OWN VOLITION. THAT’S MY GIRL. NOW I AM CRYING.
- When DuckTales proves redistributing the wealth in fact helps the economy. Bless this fucking show.
- NO. THE FRIENDSHIP BRACELET. NOOOOO.
- Nice transition back to Donald.
- And here I thought the show wouldn’t shit on him for at least one episode.
Episode 15, “The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains!”:
- Love the little differences in Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s hairs.
- “Worse. It’s my ex.”
- Ice Queen? WEISS.
- “I feel both disturbed and intrigued.”
- The fact Goldie keeps having to move Glomgold’s hands away from her. I live for it.
- “I’m not your date.”
- Someone please save Dewey from Glomgold.
- Demogorga? Must be where the Mind Flayer comes from. Proper term for the Upside Down.
- “How old are you?”
- Wait? Goldie took down Webby and Beakley? HOW?
- YES. HE BEFRIENDED THE BEAR.
- Awe. Scrooge had his heart broken. Straight up betrayed.
- Welp, now Goldie really is… GOLDIE.
- But wow, she… saved him? Uh… well then.
- SHE LIVES.
Episode 16, “Day of the Only Child!”:
- Webby would fawn over the deadly security robot.
- Webby right on it thinking we’re in a dystopian AU.
- Poor Huey is so alone.
- “I just wanna use a rich kid for an infinity pool!”
- OH MY GOD ROBBIE DAYMOND.
- An unhealthy obsession with kidnapping. My god.
- A lot of sibling slapping this episode.
- “Possible death v. definite badge.”
- At least Huey is aware.
- Awe Huey is so nice to two-thirds of the Beagle Boys.
- I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.
- Oh nevermind they got creepy.
- YURI LOWENTHAL. BLESS. SO MANY GOOD ACTORS THIS EPISODE. I mean always in this show but fuck it.
- “No one says no to Master Doofus. No one.”
- This Dufus kid fucking horrifies me.
- THE SERVANTS ARE HIS PARENTS? WHAT?
- Is this The Exorcist?
- FRIEND PRESENT?
- HUEY TO THE RESCUE. But what was he gonna do with the umbrella and walnuts?
- Oh nevermind. Guess it’s time for the one who loves being an only child to save his brothers. LESSONS.
- Oh my god did Webby hack the robot to force Dewey to learn a lesson?
- SHE DID. HOLY SHIT THAT’S MY GIRL.
- Aaaaand cue the evil robot.
- “Put your hands in the air.” Wave ‘em like you just don’t care.
- And so the robot carries him to the plot.
- “You’re funny. I’m keeping you.” EXCUSE ME?
Episode 17, “From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22!”:
- MRS. BEAKLEY. I HAVE MISSED HER.
- Essentially this is HGTV, right? GOD I LOVE THAT SHIT.
- Interesting there’s no music for most of this fight.
- Oh shit Beakley got kidnapped, didn’t she?
- “I know everything about you.” Webby is the fandom. I love her.
- META.
- Everytime I hear Donald’s scream I become more alive.
- Oh my god Beakley’s past hairstyle. I love it.
- OH THIS IS HOW BEAKLEY MET SCROOGE. YO.
- Oh my god. The gummy bears. Weren’t they one of the first Disney Channel cartoons? HOLY SHIT THE REBOOT UNIVERSE IS REAL.
- EVEN THE POTION’S EFFECTS MIMIC THE GUMMY BEARS.
- Like granddaughter like grandmother.
- “I’m like a super mega rubber ball of death!”
- Well that ending got super dark. I LOVE IT.
- Wait, why are we focusing on that potion? Is it gonna be important? I’m scared.
Episode 18, “Who is Gizmoduck?!”:
- LIN-MANUEL IS BACK.
- Poor Fenton. I feel his pain so bad.
- Oh my god duck Spanish soap operas. Give. Me. LIFE.
- Oh great. Mark Beaks. GREAT.
- Yep. I hate this man.
- Oh my god, a magical girl transformation.
- SCROOGE TO THE RESCUE. YAY.
Episode 19, “The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck!”:
- YAY LENA EPISODE. My girl.
- I just realized the dime in the intro is Scrooge’s Number One Dime. THIS. FUCKING. SHOW.
- Collecting drool samples? Uh… Webby?
- “LET’S TAKE A BLOOD OATH!” I fucking love Webby.
- The dreamcatcher. FORESHADOWING. Nice repeating the date for emphasis.
- “I SHALL CALL YOU TENDERFEET.” The fact they know this is cheesy as shit and used it to tip us off to the real story. It’s so good, but I also feel betrayed cuz I love animals.
- Also I just realized Tenderfeet is voiced by Sam Riegel. The betrayal hurts even more because I love Sam.
- Beware the Unicorn. Bitches.
- I love this whole scene. It’s so twisted and fucked up and I love it.
- Also note little Easter egg of Webby’s original design for the doll.
- “Whoops. She gone.”
- OH GOD THEY PULL AN Exorcist. AGAIN.
Episode 20, “Sky Pirates… in the Sky!”:
- “Salem only uses people until they are no longer useful.” Except here, the writers are aware of the redundancy and use it for comedic effect. Thank gods.
- Oh Dewey trying to get attention. Poor child.
- Even Scrooge’s phone is gold. My god. But nice touch that it’s a flip phone. Cuz he old.
- FOUND THE SKY PIRATES.
- I gotta respect them putting on musical numbers in mid-air. I was about to ask if anyone was piloting those ships as they danced, but nevermind.
- Launchpad, at that point just go crazy with your maneuvers til you ditch these guys. Don’t just remain still.
- Wait, is this guy from another of the older Disney cartoons? He looks very familiar.
- WHY IS NO ONE DOING ANYTHING AS THEY STEAL THE TREASURE?
- It seems like a huge missed point for meta commentary.
- “I can’t believe you were distracted by [whatever Scrooge said].” Says the man who stood there letting the pirates take your treasure as they sang?
- Yet he’s aware of this guy’s disguise? My god.
- Sky sharks? Uh… okay then.
- And Dewey’s gone nuts. Great.
- YES, WEBBY. FUCK WITH LOUIE.
Episode 21, “The Secret(s) of Castle McDuck!”
- Oh I love this episode. And I adore this eerie intro with the dark colors, the foreboding dialogue, and the mist leading up to… FAMILY REUNIONS. Perfection incarnate.
- I’m with Webby on this. In the words of Pyrrha, “You can’t get it wrong if it’s the truth.”
- Awe Scrooge’s mom is so sweet. I love her so much.
- “Neither is satisfactory. A thoughtful son would know that.” That is the most accurate fucking thing I have heard in my life.
- Oh my actual god Scrooge had a pet that was a clump of hair. Named Whiskers. Jesus lord.
- “Brooding teenage Scrooge! Baby Scrooge!” Me crying over adorable versions of characters I adore.
- AWE BABY DONALD.
- Wow. Louie is a genius in terms of money and gold.
- “You avoid us like the plague!” “Oh come now. That’s unfair to the plague!” OH DAMN.
- “That’s it, go to your room!” “I never lived here!”
- The fact they’re all super emotional about this, especially Louie. I love this show.
- OH MY GOD. THIS TWIST. SCROOGE’S FATHER GAVE SCROOGE THE AMERICAN NUMBER ONE DIME INDIRECTLY.
- The gift of self-reliance. Imma cry. THIS IS SO EMOTIONAL I’M GONNA CRY.
- Wow. Scrooge’s grandfather is an even bigger dick than his father. Damn you, Dirty Dingus.
- YES. DUCK FAMILY WORKING TOGETHER. I LOVE IT.
- “Who needs treasure when we’ve got each other.” Dies of laughter.
Episode 22, “The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!”:
- Oh you can tell they’re building to a heartbreaking conclusion right out of the gate.
- “Six months ago, if you’d told me I should take in a group of youngins, I’d have called you daft. But I tell ya, I haven’t felt this energized and vital since… well, a long time.”
- “Experimental race cars!” “Lasers!” “Aeroplanes?” THE META.
- “The [something something] MacGuffin!” THIS FUCKING SHOW. (Those unaware, MacGuffin is a term for a plot device. “No, but like… is it a statue?”
- Goddamn, Beakley really saves up her vacation days. That’s over two and a half years, jeez.
- Man I wish Beakley came on more adventures. She’s so much fun.
- “Nothing can stop us-” “STOP MILKING THE MOMENT.
- “Inconspicuous whistling.”
- And cue DarkWing Duck.
- “Nothing bad is going to happen to her.” “Her who?” GASP.
- The lighting in this scene with Dewey out on the wing. Holy shit, so good.
- I like that little subversion of expectations. You’d expect the triplets to just get over this, but they don’t. They’re in shock and their anger, grief, and confusion is being directed at an easy target: Scrooge. And Scrooge is very insecure over this, and so when he’s vulnerable and gets attacked, he flips out. Excellent way to justify all this.
- This ending with Scrooge trying to find Della and failing routinely. Gives me chills every time. God I’m going to cry.
Episode 23, “The Shadow War!”:
- FINALE TIME. 44 MINUTES BITCHES.
- And no cold open to set the mood. Love it already.
- Little callback to the first episode with Donald worrying about Dewey trying to hotwire the boat.
- “Back to the good ol’ days. Woo-oo.”
- YES. MAGICA. I LOVE MAGICA. And Lena.
- I love the imagery they use with the shadows Lena throws up. It’s so fucked up and chilling and I adore it.
- Anyone else get Yzma vibes when Magica was going over her plans?
- Excellent use of Launchpad to get Magica filled in on the situation. Cuz Launchpad would naturally recap all of this cuz he’s so dumb and sweet.
- The marble thing is definitely a callback to Scrooge giving the triplets marbles in episode one. LOVE THIS SHOW.
- “Wait what?”
- “I’m a former agent and a grandmother. I know how to weaponize guilt.”
- OH I LOVE THIS SCENE WITH MAGICA’S RETURN.
- “Spilled. Like my life.”
- “How dare you make me pity you. This is not how I pictured killing you in my head for the last fifteen years!”
- Love the connection with Magica and Scrooge both thinking love and family make you weak, but Scrooge comes around.
- OKAY, BUT MAGICA’S DESIGN IS AMAZING. She’s legit Maleficent as a duck. I especially love that the dark magic makes her green. AND SHE HAS BILL CIPHER EYES.
- THE SHADOW QUEEN. I LOVE THAT TITLE.
- “Why don’t you ask your housekeeper’s granddaughter’s new best friend? You have a confusing family structure, you know that?”
- I do wish Lena got more to do to fight against Magica, but this makes sense given she was Magica’s shadow given sentience.
- The music as Magica fucks up the city is phenomenal, along with that “ominous shadow vortex.” And the money bin is the perfect setting for the final battle. Love the little throne made of gold.
- The characters revering Magica as this huge threat is almost like telling the audience of the original series “Yes. She is back. We know how bad she is.”
- DONALD’S NORMAL VOICE. I actually love it. It terrified my friend.
- She made a revenge monologue. This is me as a villain.
- “Ooh, that’s good, got a pen?”
- LENA’S NIGHT VISION GOGGLES RETURN.
- Huey asking about the technicalities and plot holes is the pinnacle of the meta commentary. “It’s just magic, okay?”
- “A swift kick in the ribs!” “A what? MY RIBS.”
- Nice giving Huey and Louie moments to both kick Magica’s ass and to again show off their unique traits and characterization.
- HOLY SHIT WEBBY IS OUT FOR BLOOD.
- “YOU ARE NOT. A. NICE. PERSON.”
- MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP BITCH.
- Oh god, Lena being destroyed hurt me so deep.
- GET HER, WEBBY.
- “Way to dispel your own spell, DeSpell!”
- “SORRY TO CRASH THE PARTY.”
- THE LITTLE GLIMPSE OF LENA. MY HEART.
- “Huey. Louie. The third one.” Aweeeee.
- That cliffhanger though. DELLA IS ALIVE. I NEED SEASON 2 NOW.
