The road to HEXROLL|2 - it's a whole different beast
Added 2023-02-20 23:28:27 +0000 UTCGreetings Brave Adventurers,
Allow me to geek out super briefly and using a couple of diagrams, illustrate how HEXROLL|2 will be in many ways more of a platform, rather than a simple generator.
The current HEXROLL has a pretty straightforward structure. Oversimplifying, it's an executable that when given a set of parameters, outputs one big HTML file:

HEXROLL|2 on the other hand will be structured as an interactive web application:

Instead of generating a single monolithic HTML file, HEXROLL|2 will generate each sandbox as a collection of connected entities in a directional acyclic graph. The backend will be based on SCROLL, and the frontend will be a dynamic Javascript application using SVG graphics for maps.
I promised to be brief, so I'll stop here and share more in a later post.
Until then - enjoy the crawl.

2023-02-24 04:24:22 +0000 UTCIt's too early to tell as I'm still experimenting with things (specifically I want to hone down hex map customization, re-rolling and large scale maps). Ideally I want to get to a Patreon-only release for testing within the next six months. I'm currently dedicating ~50% of my spare time (of evenings, weekends and time-offs) and it seems to yield good progress while still being sustainable :)
