Yesterday at The Renaissance Faire
Added 2023-05-07 19:50:08 +0000 UTCWent to the Renaissance Faire yesterday for the first time ever! The theme was "Cottagecore" so I was relieved that I could just wear one of my dirndls, and why not top it off with this 1940s hat which toes the line between stylish and ridiculous?
Joining me was Tosca, Matt, Michael Schmidt, Cali and Danielle. It was very crowded, so we didn't get to see the joust, but we had fun anyway.
Have you been to the Renaissance Faire before? Apparently this one is the original one. I can see why people love it. Some of the costumes and set-ups are really amazing, and I love that everyone feels free to get wild, and they appear to love having photos taken. I also love hearing all the cheers across the faire, and seeing people lean into--and I say this with utmost affection---the absurdity of it all. Not judging the absurdity in the way that may sound... because I am a huge fan of these types of shenanigans. It is most definitely immersive showbiz theatre, and we all get to partake. I love it.
I occasionally throw what I call a "Garden Arts" party, which started off with a Sunday about ten or so years ago, where I invited close friends to come bring any type of artistic endeavor to share with everyone. Oh, the things my friends have come up with over the years! I know I have shared some images on the old app we had, but if there was interest I could share them here too. Nowadays, I usually choose a theme, the last one a few years ago was puppetry and performance, and I think the next one will be a Ren Faire theme. So I was doing a little research yesterday.
PS: I should have bought those medieval shoes. Also, the puritans were by far my favorite part of the faire.
