Many of you have asked me to go into some more detail about my process for making videos so I thought I'd record myself reading a first take for the intro to my new Dorico video.
For these software review videos, which are the toughest ones to make, I generally get my script nailed down and all my research, video capture and artwork complete before I start recording audio. It makes editing much faster, which allows me to focus on pacing and flow.
For other videos, my process can be much looser than this. I might record some audio first and piece together a more coherent story later in editing.
With software reviews, I find I need to have a solid narrative nailed down at the outset, otherwise the video will end up a bit like an incredibly long list of 'good' and 'bad' features, which would be like watching paint dry.
This is shot on a webcam by the way. I'm planning on putting myself in this video for a few moment too... so in a way this is like an early screen test.
Watching myself back, I find it interesting to see how much I gesticulate while speaking. I don't really do that as much when I'm being... normal.
