The great iPhone scam

A long, long overdue video and I hope this one will be interesting to you.

This group of scammers steal brand new phones and their victims pay for these phones. So how exactly do they do this?

If you can't click the video at the top, use this link:
https://youtu.be/J_TmW5OX704

The video exposes 3 groups who run the scam... this time from Pakistan rather than India.  As always, I cannot do this research without your support on Patreon, so thank you for all of this support.

Enjoy!

I was called three separate times by teams running the O2 otp reset scam. It was fun keeping them talking and wasting their time. I’d love to have your skills tho Jim. Fun to watch you taking them down and satisfying to know they’re not getting it all their own way.

Ed Massey

Thank you for all your hard work Jim! You are amazing!

Danae Panayiotidou

another awesome video thank you Jim for all your hard work keep up the fight against these scammers blessings 🙏

Just watched this vid on YouTube….. tonight someone tried 5 times to access my o2 account, which o2 locked my account. I have reset my password …. Just incase (FYI it was a legit account locked email from o2 that tripped me …. Why dosent o2 use 2 factor authentication 😡)

Ivan Hartley

If it wasn't for the strong accent, I really do think a lot more people would fall for this. Let's hope AI voices don't change this for the worse...

Jim Browning

Thank you Val

Jim Browning

@Jim I had one of these calls this morning. Trying to reduce my monthly bill. Strange that…as I am on Pay and Go. I think I am wise enough not to fall for a scam BUT you never know. Keep ‘er Lit… From Northern Ireland

Welcome back.

3. They use the code to change the password on the account. After that they login and do whatever they want, ie change address and order an expensive phone.

BarcodeUK

2. They have called knowing the pin code is about to arrive. They convince the account owner to reveal that code.

BarcodeUK

1. Knowing the Mobile number and email, they start the forgotten password process, which send the pin code to the mobile.

BarcodeUK

Hi Paulo, I think you may have missed the way the scam works. It isn't about signing in normally, it's the way they handle lost passwords.

BarcodeUK

Fascinating to read how this scam works thanks to you and all of the work you do. This is blatant theft and it is hard to understand why the authorities allow it to continue - you have proof. Thanks a million for everything you do to help protect innocent victims and I am proud and honoured to support your work.

Val Page

Thank you so much Terry.... Means even more coming from a fellow scambaiter. I appreciate the support and encouragement. Small victories are still victories. Keep.at the scam baiting yourself! Jim

Jim Browning

I can always count on you to provide us with the best & most informative content. Your hard work saving victims & potential victims is immeasurable and appreciated more than you know!! Thank you Jim (I am The Bashful Scambaiter on YT)

I'd love to think something will come of this... perhaps Pakistan has fewer corruptible police officers than India?

Jim Browning

I hope so... if nothing else, I wonder if the police there will attempt to make an example of this. Let's hope.

Jim Browning

They buy UK VoIP phone numbers from a number of companies. The vendor of some of their numbers runs a UK company and is of Pakistani origin... I'm investigating whether that company know exactly what's going on. Great to hear of others baiting these people. Wasting their time is the least of what they deserve.

Jim Browning

Should work with this link: https://youtu.be/J_TmW5OX704 Sorry ... seems to be something to do with AV perhaps?

Jim Browning

I finally got access to this video after I went around the world and back to get here lol. All I have to say is Jim you never seem to amaze me because there’s no other that I would put before you even though there’s a lot of great baiters but not on your level. You are the GOAT and always will be no matter what. Thank you so much for producing such amazing videos my wonderful friend 💜❤️💜😘

Stephanie Humphries

Very aware of them. Same groups who target all European countries. Will be making a video on some of these groups soon

Jim Browning

Great work Jim , are you aware of any scams targeting Ireland ? I've been getting alot of robo calls.

scobaun

I'll try to tweet the video (when the public one comes out) to them just to see their official response. Maybe they will listen?

Jim Browning

Thank you Paulo

Jim Browning

Great video as always Jim.

Paulo

Give them a call! Unfortunately, I suspect that one mobile provider is not going to do this unless they all agree to. Why would one company make logging in harder (an extra step for all their customers) if other companies don’t do the same? Not gonna happen. But if enough customers of these firms let them know they want it… and if it is across all the providers… then it will happen. Jim pushing this through media may also help.

Paulo

Great job as always. I don't mind waiting for new content since I know that you're doing a lot of work in the background that we don't see. I admire your persistence. You keep going even though the (mainly indian) police never seem to bother.

Bjarnehall .

Great job as usual. Seems like there’s a lot more types of scams popping up these days. Maybe governments will finally crack down on these? Maybe not. Who knows?

Sami

Thank you Jim. Always so informative. I was plasantly supprised the UK police actually followed up, and made an arrest. We use a pasword management software so don't forget passwords. I didn't realise how easy it is to reset our O2 accounts. Scary,Would it help if we contacted O2 an asked them to change their security in the way you suggest?

BarcodeUK

Well done sir. It is a travesty that the local police are so inept or worse, corrupt.

Dennis Fahey

Love how you expose these thieves Jim. I too hope the police of Pakistan don't become like the ones in India

Thanks for sharing how this scam works, I get these scam calls fairly regular. They call from a likely UK landline phone number though this is likely spoofed. The mobile number they call me on was originally issued by Virgin Mobile but I swopped to EE and kept my number. They always say they’re calling from Virgin Media and offer somewhere around a 40% discount, they also only ever refer to me as Sir and don’t seem to have any of my personal details. I’m guessing EE is probably more difficult for them as they don’t seem as interested when I tell them this - I did once mention I have an o2 account and they were a lot more interested in that. I now just try to keep them talking as long as possible - one even had the nerve to start begging for £20 and my credit card details!

Paul Ferguson

I am pleased to help you this way 😊. Great video, this was a new scam fo mee 👏👍

Lillan62

Thank you André!

Jim Browning

Thank you Marita. Sadly if you've not heard of the scam, it's only a matter of time before you do. Wishing your Dad well. Good on him for taking on an iPhone at 93!

Jim Browning

As always… Great work!!! 👍👍👍🍻

André Forcier

FANTASTIC!! Thanks, AGAIN ... so much Jim. This is another video I can share with my 93-year-old Dad who has been a victim SEVERAL times resulting in a loss of thousands of dollars as I have shared with you. I am sure, now that I have gotten him and trained him on his new iPhone, he will surely be targeted yet again. I Pray he isn't ... but he is on many a scammer list as a successful victim of scams that pays a lot. I had not heard of this scam, so I am so very grateful. THANKS AGAIN SO SO SO MUCH FOR your work. I am a longtime supporter, and I am honored to be able to do it.

Marita Jeffrey

Heheh. Let's hope he was a headphone user.

Jim Browning

I can confirm they do! My very non tech savvy father in law (mid 60s, semi retired) started gibberring to me the other day about how tech support scams work… he watches Scam Interceptors! I was very impressed as he even struggles to use his smartphone to text! My own dad watches the show too but he’s a lot more tech savvy and just enjoys his trash daytime tv 😂

Abi

Great stuff as usual. I had a scam call the other day, i had an electronic whistle in my pocket at the time. This particular scammer will have had ringing ears for a while.

John

Thanks Jess. I was able to share some of the PC access with the team in the BBC, so some of the messages in this video should make it to the people who are more likely to be watching daytime TV. I hope anyway.

Jim Browning

Thanks for all that you do to stop these predators and educate people to help keep them from becoming victims.

Jess Catleesi

Really, I've been thinking about those scam followers on Twitter and Reddit. Quit Reddit after being overrun by OnlyFans bots, and on Twitter I've been getting scam accounts that send phishing links if you follow them back

William Ference

Thank you Abi. Really appreciate the support on Patreon.

Jim Browning

Sorry for the absence... A few things happened recently beyond my control, but I hope to make up for that over the coming weeks.

Jim Browning

Always proud to be a supporter. Blessings to you and yours. 👏🏻🙏💪🏼

KRO

Was just thinking about your channel today! Thanks for doing what you do Jim
