The 'Bad People' Podcast

I did a little podcast for the BBC recently.

If you can't click the link in the title, it's here: https://youtu.be/Tg3UG44J9DA

The podcast will be edited by the BBC to include some clips of some of my exploits with scammers, but I thought I'd upload the interview section here.  The podcast is a regular feature called 'Bad People Podcast'. See:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08lj2sz/episodes/downloads

Dr. Julia Shaw - Canadian-German criminal psychologist
Sofie Hagen - Danish comedian
Louisa Field - Producer

The podcast can be described as true crime meets comedy and science. They cover everything from serial killers to con-artists.

The finished article will be published by the BBC next month and I'll include a link to it on Patreon.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this interview.

Are you mentioned in it? Personally I don't like their podcast because it seems to glorify serial killers and it seems gross but I know a lot of people are interested in that

A Girl Online

Hi Jim I admire what you do. I have a question do you have separate machines for doing interviews like this with camera disabled so you won’t expose your self accidentally?

Karthikeyan Vaithilingam

I enjoy seeing what you do.I shut down a scammer’s phone line with their carrier tonight. Very little impact really but it felt good.

Paulo

And if I can help in any way please let me know.

Great Job!! Please keep stopping them! Make a you tube video with short clips of each scam and tell the victims to take 5 minutes before they send that money to watch the video. Then they hopefully will see they are not alone in being scammed. See doesn't this look similar? Thanks for all you do!

The bigger concern with the legality of what you do is not exactly relating to how you are using the access you get. The bigger legal question is likely the fact that whomever is authorized to reverse a connection to a scammer’s computer not only grants you access to that scammer’s information, but also to the personal information of every victim of that scammer. The fact that you are watching them conduct a scam where the victim is entering private banking information and details is giving you a lot of information about a lot of people. Now, I trust you to not take advantage of that access, but changing the laws to allow a private citizen (at least) to do this grants them access to a lot of other personal information as well.

An excellent podcast, with some really good questions. Like you, I think it's a pity that law enforcement agencies aren't beating your door down to help them do what you do. As you say, a change in the law may need to happen first.

I’m surprised that MOD cyber hasn’t taken you to protect the U.K. I guarantee you’d be welcomed with open arms.

Congrats! Can't watch this right now but wanted to tell you how much I love all your hard work on shutting down the scammers..

Great video. 👍 keep up the good work, Jim.

It's always a good thing to step back and give yourself time to think anything through. You're lucky that you had those doubts. I see too many people blindly following instructions. But this can happen to anyone (and has happened to me recently). You just need one off day...

Thank you Brian.

I probably should be - I have far more interesting scambaiting than my 'real' job. A career changed is on the cards though.

(Darth Vader voice) Jim, you are my father.😁 For a very long time, I had used several Trac-phones & ordered from Amazon & other web sites, with several pre-paid Master Card (low $'s) leery of Sammers. Then, almost fell prey to them from being to complacent. For some reason (feeling), I had questioned why to myself ? This doubt stopped me from being scammed... this time! Hopefully this 'feeling of doubt' finds others! Thank you for your, ah... 👍

I honestly thought you were doing this full time :) fair play investing your free time helping people.
