Who's making all those scam calls?

Criminals are no different than toddlers…they’ll treat us like we’re stupid despite being caught red handed! It’s a complete failure to mature properly and realize that none of us got to where we are without struggling. We’ve all had hard times and can all tell hard luck stories…but there’s nothing lower on this earth than a scum bag who takes from those who’ve worked their entire lives to have a little set aside. I don’t care how they justify it to themselves, we don’t get given a fat bank account at birth, we have to slog and deny ourselves to build that nest egg. I blame dumb tv shows for making it look like ALL Westerners are rich…those shows don’t show the reality, that only the top 1% live like that. The rest of us live paycheck to paycheck just so we can save something for retirement!! The authorities in India need to get off their proverbials and arrest every one of these scammers, same in Russia too. Only when criminals are arrested constantly does the risk outweigh the benefit.

Jim. Thank you for what you do. I just heard a new scam. Someone with a heave East INDIAN accent and lots of call center in the background with wanted me to buy CBD oil from them and I Gould do so be buying and tranferin bicoin to their account.

India's laws are closer to English law to start off with and American cops do have a reputation for using illegitimate evidence to get a prosecution though skin colour and what part of America you are in does play a big part in that.

Some guys almost had me for a hot second a few months ago claiming to be from Apple and had detected my phone being used in another country. Almost. Good to know you are out there.

In the US the police can't use information obtained illegally. I'd be surprised if it was different in India. That means they can't use Jim's information. What's galling is a judge throwing out a case simply because the police couldn't prove there were any victims.

I wish he would have asked the police about why they have, seemingly, not acted on any of the call centers you have reported to them. The data you have on them should be more then enough to justify an arrest. Unless their laws are very wonky. Would have loved to here more from the police or maybe even a Indian lawyer on this topic. =)

Thanks Lorna. I'm shortly having another article published in the AARP ... one of America's largest publishers for the older age group. I can't get the message over to the people who need it most via YouTube, so I've brought one of their prominent journalists on a journey to see the scams in action and they will be publishing another article... possibly quite similar soon. Thanks Stephanie. I don't know about the hero thing, but all I can say is that banks could do a lot more. It was nice to see one particular bank taking the fraud report seriously and honestly helped their customer very quickly. However, if money is actually stolen, it's a very different matter. This dropped my jaw when I watched an actual television channel in College Station, Texas-- almost every ad was for "reverse mortgage" scams or "free stuff you can get if you let us bill Medicaid for you". I'm always amazed that Billions are taken from U.S. annually and no federal agency can do anything about it. Yet, there is a dedicated FBI agent investigating stolen sports memorabilia. Doesn't make sense.

I know this is a silly little thing, but I wondered why the author wanted to refer to Jim by his real middle initial "L", rather than by his usual pseudonym. I like to think it's cos it sounds a bit like "Kal-El" (Superman), which is supposed to mean “Voice of God.” Maybe that's just in MY head.

Well done Jim! At least with media the message gets out and there is incentive, even if only tiny, for corps/governments/legit tech companies to push on the local indian police to do something.

Thanks so much for this Jim. It doesn't matter how many times I hear about these scams, it still makes my blood boil every time, especially when they are being unnecessarily nasty to a confused elderly person. These people are pure scum and it is so satisfying when they get what they deserve (or at least someone deliberately wastes hours of their time).

The sad part is getting this information out to those that need it through mainstream media in the US. The problem being the not so subtle war the stations are having with themselves, but if you ever watch these news channels.. all their ads are basically scams themselves targeting older people with fake supplements, and other useless services.

Thanks for this Jim. I've had two so far since start of this year and when I had the first I was scrambling for my mobile to turn on voice recorder but they hung up. I still have the call logs though and also have photos of older ones from last year. Enjoyed the video too.
