Saved by the dog (Patron only video)

This will have to remain a Patron only video for the time being because the woman doing the scamming is under investigation by the police in the UK.

The video shows just how close one particular victim came to losing £14,000 (around $18,000). It was a bark of a dog which fouled the scam.

I'll be making a few more videos about this woman shortly.... Including seeing her run a scam whilst her webcam was on.

In the meantime, I hope this both shocks and intrigues you.

Exciting - I look forward to it!

I do have an update and she's the subject of my next video. I hope to release it shortly.

Jim Browning

Jim, what happened to this woman? Do you have an update?

I’m so happy this guy listened to his gut and realized that the police have the ability to set up all sorts of sting ops that NEVER involve legitimate customers. This woman should be locked up and the key lost!

Judith Borghi

I’m dead! ☠️😭🤣

Attaboy!

VegaLupina

Even with a scammer there's a good boy

wooooo,,,,,That was teriffying to hear, if he went go along with it that was £14,000grand that's a lot of money. This all scammers are so, heartless..Thank you Jim, for saving all the victims. hope you updated us what is the result in this case. Would love to know. God bless you always and may God will always keep you safe...

Out feckin rageous !

I have recently decided to branch out to forensics. :P

House

Shouldn't you be solving medical issues?

Rose Tyler

Would really appreciate an update - even on text if there is one. Man Indian scammers working with local accents. Shit is fucked. Although I can't imagine who would have the heart to team up with foreigners to scam their very own people.

House

Jim what happened with this one? Was she arrested in the end?

It would appear that an awful lot of people either don't pay attention to the warnings anti-scammers give or the warnings don't get the visibility needed to be effective. There are more public service announcements at three a.m. in the morning warning people how to avoid contracting leprosy or trench foot than how to avoid handing over your entire life savings to some bottom feeding low life. I received a pop-up from someone with an accent so strong I could hardly understand them as they claimed to be from the IRS. As I listened to his spiel on one computer I asked Duckduck Go if the IRS ever instigated calls to citizens to address concerns and the answer was a resounding NO, NEVER, WON'T HAPPEN, FORGETABOUTIT! I was more likely to get a phone call from Jimmy Hoffa wishing me Happy Holidays than a telephonic, "You're in deep doo doo," from the IRS. This also goes for most banks unless you've signed up for the bank's 'Questionable Purchase' alert system which will call when money is spent in places that fall outside of your normal pattern based on previous purchases. They call me to verify that I spent $1100 on repairs to my Vangard's sails, a legitimate reason for concern since I've never owned a sail boat. And the IRS will NEVER ask for account numbers since, obviously, they already have that information. I wish I had your knowledge and ability to shut down scammers scamming but I can at least keep them on the phone with me for a few hours instead of them scamming someone else. If they claim to be from Microsoft I ask if Bill Gates is gay, do they like cats, and do they know why the sky is blue, and so one. I love to see you deliver karma to these sub-human dirt-bags. It's a Patreon donation well spent. Keep it up.

My heart was pounding as I watched this video. Thank God he wised up and finally hung up the phone. Hell awaits this woman scammer. The message sent to her at the end by her co-scammers was truly so sickening. Thank you, Jim Browning for saving this man and many others.

impressive how she begs for the transfere and telling him to stay calm

NotMe

Is the follow up video published already?

Very interesting. Looking forward to seeing the follow up video with her webcam on. Thanks Jim.

mic911

cops will never ask you for your car like in the movie. nor would they ask you to do there job for them... the NCA needs to get a grip on people pretending to be NCA agents wtf pull the finger out.

Does he ever come back with news on if the police replied and what not? I'm kinda curious if all of the scammers are stlll living a free life or if some got caught by authorities? And also quite curious about what happened to that UK girl. She is scamming her own people. Anybody can answer that? :o

She sounded very unprofessional. That poor man sounded lonely, perhaps why he kept talking with her.

You know in this day and age, I feel like we have a hard time trusting the people in front of us, .... but it seems some show to some people, the people taking over the phone comes off more trustworthy?...

Kimi Sayeed

I guess that she would of gotten away with if it wasn’t for that pesky mutt does apply now. The absolute gall how these ‘so-called’ people can earnestly say they ‘earn’ a living. Absolute disgrace!!! #CanineKarma

Is the lady Lynn Owens using a voice changer or are the scammers from England

Telling the caller that he didn't check his bank account on Sunday mornings was an error. NEVER give out any information over the phone. Even the use of a Smart Speaker in the home is a blunder many will come to regret in the future (IMHO). An open mic in your home? What could possibly go wrong?

I probably would have fallen for the genuine accent at first, but then she started sounding a little too much like a female Michael Caine and I find it hard to believe that the head of the NCA would sport a Cockney accent while talking about scams.

I hope this doesn't come across as racist or ageist but her British accent and older sounding convincing makes it sound more convincing. I think because we are quite used to younger Indian accents with strange choices of words and odd pronunciation being scammers but coming from an older lady who is British makes seem not like the others.

One of the many reasons why I don't shop amazon. Have not on over 3 years. The company accountability for the orders I did not double myself went down the trash shoot. Plus. It is mostly expensive trash on amazon now.

Wow. !!

Yes... that's why they pretend to be legitimate businesses It doesn't make what he's doing any less illegal, and it's fine for both to be illegal. Our governments do far more illegal things than this every day. You are a bit right though, seems like they tend to put that burden on the ISPs if it ever really does come up. Much like america lol

foxy

Sadly I think very few scammers ever see the inside of a prison.

lostcosmonaut

I found this truly chilling. This woman was a far better con artist than the average scammer. Sure, her accent helped but the main thing was her calm demeanor and ability to keep the victim on the phone. Her effectiveness fell apart after the dog bark — she lost her authority over the victim who started to more easily poke holes in her story. The thing I find chilling is that one can easily imagine an even more agile and practiced version of this con artist succeeding at this. I’ve long wondered why these scammers don’t look for better English skills in their recruits, I just assumed that they can only find unskilled scum to do this kind of work. I wonder what motivated this female scammer to take up this sleazy activity. No doubt the masterminds in India convinced her they were so smart that she would never be located. I would love to watch her squirm in court as the evidence against her is shown. If only prisons had scheduled events where victims could line up to “visit” those who scammed them.

Its time for a change in the law - on a recent call you mentioned that if you log onto a scammers PC then its illegal to access their system even though they are on yours. Seems to me that IF a scammer connects to your PC they should accept the risk that you can have the same access to their PC as they have to yours - so once they are on with teamviewer they are fair game and any access you make to their computer is SELF DEFENCE and not illegal

Is this recording from before Covid pandemic? If not I don't understand how the dog bark made the guy suspicious. A lot of office workers work from home now, why not someone from the NCA? That would also account for not being able to hear other calls in the background. What is even weirder is that that wasn't the immediate excuse the scammer used. Instead coming up with that weird recording excuse? What the...

I was reading this about this crime circuit: One case involved a 70-year-old man from London who transferred his life savings of £350,000 out of his account after crooks pretended to be NCA officers and staff from an IT security company. The victim allowed the men remote access to his computer after they said he had been hacked and needed to move his money to safe account. Stealing £350,000 from a 70 y/o man is sickening.

Brian H

Throughout this call I keep saying to myself. "don't do it. don't do it, don't do it". I was reading this about this crime circuit

Brian H

Soon enough, I'm sure she won't, either.

Danielle

I have a feeling the dog doesn't live there anymore 😕

This gave me shivers. Why did it take him so long to catch on?

If impersonating a police officer gets you time , god knows what impersonating a police doggie will get you sadistic people I actually work for a bank I won't name which one but Jim just yesterday your videos helped me save a customer from being defrauded for £37,000. Keep up the great work any help needed to produce videos or to act against this im just a message away

Thank you Jim I'm a bit late to this one because I've been working overtime with the coronavirus.. This is an amazing video, as always. Keep up the good work. I'm very happy to be supporting you.

The victim here did not see the scam at the time. He never actually worked out that Lyn was not Lyn. I think subconsciously he worked out she was not legit because it all 'smelled' bad but, very interestingly, he never actually worked this out consciously while on the call. This would be an excellent training video to raise scam awareness in the UK. Well done, Jim, as ever.

Syd

Makes me angry that TeamViewer have reintroduced the black screen. This would be excellent for general viewing as it involves a UK scammer, recording of both sides, and a potential victim who is reasonably savvy.

Syd

I hope the UK police nail her to the wall. On top of scamming & fraud charges, impersonating a gov't LEO should carry stiff penalties as well.

AFAIK they have thousands of numbers to pick from and can also cloak the number theyre calling from

This makes it much harder to spot a scam (The local accent). You wouldn't really think twice if the scammer has the same accent as you compared to being a foreign accent. Of course I'm not saying all foreign callers are scammers as lots of call centres are outsourced.

I've had a couple of these calls, first one was a few months after the BT openreach one and as soon as i pressed one, I told them it was a scam, don't waste any more time, goodbye and I hung up. A true official from the NCA or any other legitimate company for that matter wouldn't use the kind of gaslighting techniques she did.

those damn scammers need to be taken down for sure.

Great job once again Jim, looking forward to the follow up's

Oh damn! That was amazing. Ha! Great job brother.

PapiKink

True Helper.

Hi Jim, is it possible to have a quick email with you pls?

Watching more of this I also realize that professionals and by this I mean the REAL NCA or whatever would not insist on someone completing a transaction or not talking to their spouse. They would let the caller make that decision for themselves.

Mary Torrez-Watson

Kudos to you for being so diligent and helping these people!

Mary Torrez-Watson

I'm a bit late to this one. I absolutely love and appreciate what you do Jim

I am so happy this "lovely lady" has failed, I am so happy that a bunch of scammers were sitting around texting the women , giving her ridiculous lines that failed over and over, they would have been so disappointed and be blaming her now .. no doubt they spent the next few hours insulting each other about who buggered their ridiculous scam, The guy was spot on about everything but his patriotism was confusing him.

Dog @ 15:55

David Rickard

Awesome, fair play to that guy. Good work Jim

Great Video, can't wait for the follow up.

Hello Jim, I love how she was SO CLOSE to scamming him but her dog barked, she made SO MANY EXCUSES and changed her story countless times. But then he knew it was BS and hung up the phone, then you showed him what was going on and, now she will probably get arested anytime soon.

grnface 007

What a vile woman. Shameless. Love the justice in someone tricking the non-tech savvy with nonsense about stolen IP addresses and then getting stung by someone with real chops. You're a beast Jim, and let's hope she has a long time to reflect on this at her majesty's pleasure.

She is skating on more than thin ice... She's been reported to the police and Action Fraud. I can't release more damning videos until the police have finished with her.

Jim Browning

nice job as always, jim.......your pal robert aka quackdoggy

ROBERT CROMER

If this woman is a Brit, scamming someone in the UK, isn't she skating on thin ice? Ok, so I just got to the end of the video. I'm glad she's being investigated.

First of all, thank you for this video. It was very interesting and I look forward to more videos about this operation (maybe a bit of background too at the end, when you finish your investigation). I'm going to disagree with some of the other posters here in that I did not find this lady well-spoken at all. Yes, she sounded British, which definitely helps in terms of building trust, but she was really incoherent throughout and she did not speak with the clarity and authority I would expect from someone in her (fictional) position. I'm not going to elaborate on what I think is wrong with their method, just in case "The Others" are lurking, but suffice to say that I did not find her convincing at all. I'm glad the gentleman at the other end decided not to trust her after all. Jim, if you see this, is there any way I could ask you a question in private? It's nothing personal - just something related to this video I'd rather not put out there.

Iri

Who let the dogs out?

When the scam finally starts falling apart, she desperately starts reading from notepad directly, things that just don't make grammatical sense at all.

George Dorn

"TELL HIM HE IS NOT ONLY RISKING HIS MONEY HE IS RISKING EVERY BUDDYS ACCOUNT MONEY" Won't somebody think of the buddies?

George Dorn

Perhaps this case is already closed, but Jim is sharing it with this story to convince scammers to support him on Patreon...

George Dorn

The one that got away but if she is not stopped soon she will get better at scamming ! Looks like Patreon may be in trouble Jim, hope you are looking for alternate solutions for crowdfunding, I'll continue to give my support as long as I can.

REALLY BAD IDEA! Hey Jim, While I really like these 'teaser' videos for Patrons, they seem like a bad idea to me. If as you say, it's important that this not be shared, how can you depend on ALL of your Patrons to do so? Isn't it almost guaranteed that there is AT LEAST one scammer that has signed up as a Patron strictly to follow your work? Can you depend on everybody to not spoil the investigation if it really is that important? Like I said, I like this type of video, but it's much more important to me to support you as a Patron. And I am completely willing to forego these videos IF it really is important that they not be known to non-Patrons. Your thoughts?

Oh I hope she gets found guilty and charged :)

#1 Hero of the scambaiting world

SpitefulBatman

This was difficult to watch. Jim keep going, we are all with you!

This was amazing Jim. I am so glad that you were able to get through to him and confirm his suspicions because otherwise I think he would have a hard time letting go of it. Also with your confirmation he will be more confident to tell other people about the experience so they can be on alert as to how crafty the scammers are.

Doug Betts

Very interesting video. The barking dog completely screwed it up. She panicked and said the first thing that came into her head. Then tried backtracking. At that point it was obvious and should have terminated the call. Before then maybe not so to people unaware of these scams. I got the same robot call this morning. I just laughed but they obviously work. A reminder too that scammers don’t necessarily have an Indian or African accent. Keep up there good work Jim!!

Jeez that was so tense listening to that. Fair play to the gentleman for persevering with his alarm bells and so glad you could call him back to explain everything so he didn't have to worry any further,

It was Scamzilla the crime dog.

Not an Asian poorly spoken call center individual but quite an decent well spoken woman... EVEN MORE SCARY.

I was alert to the fact that scammers could use the lie that your transactions don't show for three days... they didn't use this excuse. However the guy still was convinced but alert to the dog.

It's so tense listening to this call, like a radio play. I really like this man on the phone -- he came out with some solid zingers along the way. "I'm unable to deal with this on a Friday afternoon!" "I'm putting the phone down now, Lynn, and I'm going shopping." Thank god he had the sense to listen to his own suspicions. Nice video as always, Jim.

deejaybee

Absolutely scary. You're an angel, Jim.

So painful to listen to this man struggling to figure out what to do after being gaslighted for 2 hours. Involving local voices makes it that much more difficult! I am indeed shocked, and also grateful as ever to you, JB. Thanks for being the Masked Scam Avenger we need right now.

Pretty terrifying development that they are getting people from the country to take part in their scams. Adds just one extra layer of legitimacy that could make these scams much more effective. Have you seen this before, or is this a brand new thing?

Tyler Kurth

The suspicion from the near-victim saved him from a scam about whose operation he likely was not familiar. This might be your best video yet, because it's understandable to my mother's friends many of whom are prime scammer targets - they're in their 80s, they do use computers but mostly for video communication with grandchildren, and they really want to know the redflags to watch for. Telling them about teamviewer, "connecting to your computer," doesn't really make sense to them. This video makes much more sense.

I too would like to know this.

TexZeTech

That dog deserves a medal... lol

Joseph Brzezinski

Jim. Your work is so important. If people are scamming based in this country, hopefully they can be dealt with more easily.

Any rationale from the Team Viewer people on why they reactivated the black screen and key lock?

Danielle Folsom

This type of scam really is surreal. Why would you have to recruit civilians to catch a cybercriminal? Government agencies in charge of cybercrime don't have computers and the ability to do it themselves? Of course they do. Scammers take advantage of the fact that panic impairments executive functioning and our ability to reason logically/rationally. The people who fall for scams aren't stupid, merely human. And that's why I'm immensely grateful for Jim and all the work he does to protect people. Thank you.

Alison B

Almost sounded like she was about to sputter something about corruption but got her stories crossed...

Jim, you are a blessing to all of us who want to trust people who say they’re helping us. There is nothing too bad that can happen to these scammers. They deserve to loose their own life savings.

I have a chance because most of the time, she asked the victim to personally visit the bank. Most of her victims are older and don't have online banking... As in this case.

Jim Browning

It is difficult when I can't intervene or warn the victim. Sometimes I can though.

Jim Browning

"Oh that. The barking dog…yeah that’s ummm…that's a recording that *soothes* me. I have other soothing sounds that very much carry me away to a special place, if you will: the jackhammer, the 150 decibel siren, the irate screaming Nazi wishing cancer on me and my family. All very relaxing.”

Wow... this was incredible. Was there every any way of you preventing the transaction if the man hadn't seen through it? I'd hate to think what would have happened if he hadn't seen through it. Great work Jim!

LizzyC

Yes. I'm surprised she needed much training as she's already sent over £225k to scammers since November.

Jim Browning

It's interesting that the scammers have realized that people are on to anyone calling with an Indian accent pretty much and are recruiting native English speakers to get around that. I found it fascinating that this woman is "in training" as noted by the chat, She was a good actress and I can easily see someone putting their trust in her where they may not have with someone with an obvious accent.

Nice.. Thanks

Brilliant. I'd love to be able to do this for a living. Busting scammers I mean.

I’m glad he saw through this ridiculousness! She’s pretty stupid for changing the story every 5 seconds about the dog lol

Sabrina

Holy moly. I'm so glad this guy wised up. I can't believe she was impersonating the head of NCA. I hope this one gets shut down ASAP.

april

“The police don’t normally work at home” “Covid” Best excuse 10/10

Here’s an idea if it’s possible. A scammer calls a person and tries there shananagins but it doesn’t work so the person who he tried to scam puts the number on a list so the call gets forwarded to a message system. When someone else tries to call the number on the screen they get forwarded to a message system warning the caller about a potential scam

Thank You for your work Jim, Once again scammers lose control when they have to go off script, your work has provided that doubt in peoples minds and i am sure have saved many from being scammed.

Excellent. It took him some time but eventually the guy himself noticed it was a scam. I wonder what you two talked about later on. He must have been confused about who you are. Haha

Filip Tepsic

She reacted weirdly to the dog thing. That was really what tipped him off. Amazing. I wish she had called me. The IP address thing would have tipped me off if nothing else. Could have had a lot of fun.

Rob Fisher

Crazy. My own Mum received this call the other day, but she didn't react, she phoned me right away and asked my opinion, thanks to these videos I knew this sounded suspect and was able to explain to her it was a scam.

We have dogs in our office, nothing unusual about it.

Rainer Koschnick

Fab work as always Jim. Scary stuff really, poor buggers don't know what they're getting into. Glad this chap saw through it and told her where to go.

windowsillett

Excellent work Jim

RM

Thanks for doing all this. I ended up playing dmg control this week as a relative was getting refund scammed but lucky I got there before anything really happened. Keep up the great work.

TexZeTech

Hi Jim, would you please consider a video or comment on 1) calling up the victim and ) whether you got any useful information from the scammer's computer and destroyed it once finished with it. There's been plenty of examples where scam-baiters have discovered scammers have sensitive information or creeps who have collected pictures from the victims, and would helpbprotect those people by deleting their data. While the victims will never know the data has been deleted, it would be a significant advantage for their well-being that the scammers can't victimize them further by been left with that data. In one incident an Indian scammer had copied the family's photos, including children and wedding. Fortunately the scam-baiter deleted all data that time. Thanks

I would have liked to hear the conversation when Jim calls him up lol. Saturday morning he wakes up and buries all his money in the back yard, cuts the cable lines.

Damn dude your life seems so stressful, I'd be going insane listening to these conversations just begging the person to hang up

Alice Alysia

Oh no they're over here too! Good video as always, I'm actually contemplating whether some form of a smart honeypot can be set up to log all the scammer numbers and gathering their data/patterns.

Antonia Fourie

Well this is not something you see everyday. An English phone scammer?
