If you believe they do......cover your webcam when not in use (electrial tape does a treat, or desktop just unplug it) they legally speaking are actually commiting a crime well multiple, blackmail, extortion, unauthorised access to your device as well probably many more. If you are asking just for a way to annoy them Id play along, Id engineer them into potentially showing you the alleged video, or details entailing it dates, times etc, these you can use to get them to show you if they do have it as you can say oh so that day at that time I was actually at work, I work in a mine so I do not get a second of time to access even just a phone.... While its possible its unlikely unless you have been to many unsavoury insecure websites and gotten a little worked up even then....700 seems rather lowball if it were true, thats another thing, like the refund scammers do like 2 grand, they roll that out all the time, so its unlikely but certainly worth indulging them and screwing with them if you are using a VM with a vpn no shared file folder between devices. but as above said that is literally the best thing to happen in retaliation to scammers, it does a kitboga without kitboga via email.
If in doubt with your winky out, shield your webcam.... hahaha theres a reason zuck and others do it, it does happen, but its usually personal vendetta not so much oh look here a guy I dont know or know anyone he does is in a grainy vieo tossing I will go for 700.

I sent couple of messages to Jim recently, Iโm not sure he got them. Iโm new.

Whether they have the video means nothing if dont have a way to show it to the people you know, which is impossible. From now on send email scams to me @rescam.org

What do you do if a scammer claims to have a video of you pleasuring yourself & threatens to expose you unless you pay $700.00 I did delete the email but might be able to find in delete folder. Thanks

Iโve noticed a recent trend where people from the eastern world, even just from eastern europe, are impersonating british accents. Itโs rampant on youtube.

Might it be possible to bait them using an emulator in a Devkit?

That's not good, did you lose much? About 10 years ago a mate of mine was getting scammed in a similar way, except they were UK based and English sounding. He kept investing more and more, every time he suggested withdrawing they would suggest instead that he reinvested in something else. Eventually they disappeared...think they got him for 20k.

I was victim to a boiler-room operation run by very knowledgeable Australians. Spoke to 5 people in that operation over the 6-month period before learning I was being scammed, all were very intelligent, older, and knowledgeable, and most importantly, definitely native speaking Australians (possibly one Kiwi). This was my motivation to join the good side of this battle.

They definitely have scam centers that target UK. Don't think they have the accent though, just Indian accent.

I wonder if there are any UK based English sounding scammers? Seems like an obvious progression since accent plays a large part in the scammer profile at the moment.

Hi Paul,
The scams do work on Android and iOS. I've seen scammers use TeamViewer on both type of device. Sometimes it makes their life easier because they can quickly view the installed apps and will actively seek out any online banking apps. They will quickly direct their victims to use the installed app.
Scary indeed!

Hi, Iโve seen videos on how the tech support scam works with computers, Iโm just wondering how the same scam works with mobile phones / tablets (Apple/Android)? Do they get people to install teamviewer or similar and take control of your device? If so it is a scary thought.

Very enjoyable podcast, and I too am breathless with anticipation for a Jim B and Kitboga session!

Just listened. I absolutely love it! I can't wait for the Kitboga collab (been waiting patiently for that day and the excitement hasn't died down at all). I love what you do and I have learned so much about these types of scams. I was sent too much money for a wedding dress I was trying to sell, in the form of a suspicious looking check, and I immediately knew it was a refund scam. I went to the bank and they confirmed the check was a fake. So glad I didn't fall for that!

Fantastic awareness raising.
I had no idea that you had to sit on the recordings for Panorama for so long! Now that's patience.
Also, I liked the call to action at the end, it was clear and I believe anyone who listens to this podcast will feel empowered. Only thing missing (you covered so much), was the gift card approach used by scammers.
Thanks for sharing, and catch you in Gotham City! Lol.
