Mary and Mike scamming - caught on CCTV

Some extra content for my $5+ Patrons...

It's rare to be able to see and hear a scam happening, so I've compressed a scam which took over an hour to complete into around 20 minutes.  The footage is from the Faremart/Adroit Technologies CCTV and hasn't been seen before.

You'll see "Mary" (Sanjoli Jalan) and "Mike" (Amit Rana) scamming a 74yo Australian pensioner of $550. Sadly, I couldn't prevent the scam. I put this together from recordings of their video and audio.

They use all of the standard lines, but it's one of the rare times you'll see the scammers carrying out the scam. I hope you find it interesting.

Thank you again to everyone who supports me.

They're the easiest targets. Already stressed and have their mind on much more important matters. These people are the lowest of the low.

Jim McCarthy

Oh wow, his wife is in the hospital and they still rip him off.

Funhouse Mirror

At 9 minutes in. It's so gross when they try to flirt with the victim "oh you sound so young." Puke.

Funhouse Mirror

No one wears masks there I've noticed. Seems to be a thing only for western countries.

Questions: Why do they always ask how old the computer is? Why don't pensioner/retiree/senior citizen groups conduct educational sessions or put articles in their magazines, about these scams, and what to look for? Many people over 60 have no idea that anyone would try to scam them online or what sorts of things they can fake. I think most people would remember these 2 go to reactions: 1, Shut off your computer and 2, Call your bank.

Funhouse Mirror

Zero empathy, breaks my heart :(

Jim can you post more videos like this from that same scam call center with the CCTV? I’m hooked on watching them. Great work sir!

This one bothered me - far too much. This is why we need people like Jim. Who's looking after our elderly? They are the most susceptible to these scams.

rtamayo88

It's not that unbalanced on my speakers, but the victim line is a bit quieter. Luckily the calls are on separate channels, so if you just increase the volume on the left channel, you will get the result you are looking for.

I love doing these calls i cll them regurly when i am bored , i use an old laptop to let them access , i drag out the call for as long as possible then give them a visa that is useless .. send me more numbers i will play !

Thanks for the upload. I was wondering if it would be possible to balance the audio volumes of the victim and scammer? In this case, the victim's volume is at 12%, and the scammer's volume is at 98%.

Hello Kylie, It's probably best to continue this by email... I'm jimbrowning@fastmail.fm

Jim Browning

Hi Jim, I became a patron a month or more ago. I am Australian and I get calls all the time but of course, I don't fall for them. I just waste their time for as long as possible as I work from home and now, a Home Schooling Teacher due to Covid19 lockdown. ... Has this gentleman been compensated in anyway that you know of? I would love to help out. It breaks my heart especially hearing the pensioners, seniors and people living with a disability being scammed. As I am a recent patron, I am still getting used to being a member as I only support you and one other (a singer) whom I don't use this app for as we chat via messenger. How can I contact you directly to help a fellow Aussie? Thank you so very much for your help to others via awareness etc and I'm so glad you were able to get these people arrested. I await your response, cheers :) :)

That makes me so sad listening to this. I feel sorry for the 74 yr old guy and would like to see those scammers punished / chained to a wall and tortured. What they are doing is inexcusable. His health is bad, his wife is now in hospital and they are ripping him off about a fortnights pension which they only get about 550 rupees out of that ($7.70 USD or $11.96 AUD)

Man this is heartbreaking to watch, the poor guy :(

I'm currently a fire fighter and an ex military member so I'm used to seeing a lot of horrible things. I handle it really well as I'm used to it. But these scams for me are very difficult to listen to. These people are heartless. I would not save them if their building with them in it was on fire.

Benji

its disgusting too just watch how they scam the poor guy

I have to agree with Pat above, the scammers are sick and heartless. scammers like these should be given the highest penalties possible.

Dana I think you were looking at the wrong Sanjoli Jalan. The correct woman hasn't updated her photo since August last year. https://www.facebook.com/sanjoli.jalan.5

Those two were sick and heartless to scam that poor guy .pat

Thanks Karan. Amit Chauhan was been denied bail.. a very good thing indeed. No doubt he would run off with his millions. I hope they Investigate his colleagues though... They guided him to run other scams and they own a nightclub in Delhi. I hope they follow their leads.

Jim Browning

To people wondering why these scumbags are let off shortly after these places are raided: the Police in the Delhi NCR territory (at least, the low level constabulary) is infamous for being complicit with the operators of these call centres (they get a steady stream of kickbacks) and hence they're more often than not obliged to provide them bail for "lack of evidence". Once these people are out they're free to wipe the traces of the organisation in question and start again. It's quid-pro-quo, through and through. As an Indian who is aware of the gravity and depravity of these scams I am happy to be your Patron, Jim. Keep exposing these pricks.

Karan Deshmukh

They have no soul 😡😡😡😡

I used to work for a financial organisation and spoke to many elderly people who had lost their life savings to scammers, the worst part was they felt guilty and stupid and would blame themselves for falling for it ! I spent many hours talking to victims and trying to explain that it wasn't their fault and they were dealing with professional thieves and con artists who were well trained with years of experience but it didn't help the victims much, they always blamed themselves. Thank you Jim for raising awareness and doing something to help. I'm very happy to be a Patron !

Happy to help, Jim. Hope others will join you and create a nice network

Yoel Bittner

That poor old guy. He must have been so panicked when he got the porn pop up. Such a shame they prey on the elderly. I got to know a lot of elderly people in my last job and they wouldn’t hurt anyone. I wonder if there is a way to spread the word here in Australia to these people

My ear is about to drop, but great video as always, I don't regret being a patreon of yours <3

This was hard to watch. Have you tried to contact the victim to let him know he had been scammed? This way he can at least avoid being taken advantage of in the future by random cold calls.

Mostafa

Have you thought about reaching out to Australian media with this, and other, clips? Not a retread of the panorama story, just a close look at how it all (the scam) goes down inside those call centres for the viewing public.

Haryana police news (where Amit Chauhan was arrested) Haryana Government sanction new posts to curb cyber crime 05/03/2020 With a view to curb the increasing incidents of cyber crime and ensure effective investigation, Haryana Government has accorded sanction for the creation of 98 posts of police staff and IT professionals for the Cyber Crime Police Stations and Cyber Forensic Lab functioning under the State Crime Branch at Panchkula. Home Minister, Haryana Mr Anil Vij said that out of the total, 42 posts were sanctioned for Police staff and remaining 56 posts have been approved for IT professionals. This is from the Haryana police website under news

If they were forced to pay back the money and were extradited to foreign jurisdictions perhaps the scammers would think twice. It is encouraging though that the police in this jurisdiction announced new posts to combat cyber crime

I don’t think the people working phones were arrested but the news did say they were questioned

Sanjoli's facebook page shows she recently updated her cover photo on March 11th. Did she not get arrested when Sonit Tower was raided? EDIT: Ok sorry my mistake wrong person. I made no attempt to contact this person so no harm done.

Thanks, Jim. Has there been any effort by governments (US, UK, Australian) to force a crackdown by the Indian government?

I hope she gets YouTube famous some day

On Sanjoli’s Facebook page she describes herself saying “Just Like Luck....I’m Rare”

Just washing their dirty laundry in public. Thanks again for assisting with this B3AR. Jim

Jim Browning

Amazing work Jim. What you're doing is raising awareness really fast, especially so after Panorama, so you're stopping these thieves from scamming many, many, other potential victims. Amazing work!

Steve Z

Thanks Don. I'd say the videos are pretty rare... I doubt if I will ever have as good material in the future, but in some ways it doesn't matter. My aim is to highlight how the scams work and get the Indian police to do something and I think I'm starting to see some changes. Fingers crossed the momentum will continue. Jim

Jim Browning

Ugh. These videos are gross. It makes me think of a pickpocket stealing from little old ladies. How scummy can you be??

Man, I’m so glad I joined this. Truly, I watch a lot of the funny scammer prankers, and they are HILARIOUS, and they all waste scammer time which makes them less efficient and helps the world, but I feel your videos, especially with the recent exposé and collab with BBC, are helping on a GRANDER scale!!

Don Coleman

Thanks Jason. Good to have you here. Thanks to you and my other patrons, these videos are possible. I really appreciate this support. Jim
