Not all tech scammers are in India

I get lots of comments asking me why all tech support scammers are from India. They are not all from India and this video will show scammers in two other countries who run identical scams.  Admittedly 95% of tech scams will originate in India, but never assume they're all there.

If you're good with flags, the clues are in the thumbnail of this video!

I'm still awaiting a 3rd party before I can release a series of videos which I'm certain you will love. The 3 videos will be released together for Patrons as a mini documentary. The 4th in the series will cover what happened after the public versions were released. Hopefully this will happen before the end of this month.

In the meantime, enjoy!

Woah, this one didn't age too well considering the current state of the last country mentioned as of May 2022. Scammers are everywhere I know. Just crazy to see the country mentioned in a different light.

I have binged on many of these anti-scammer videos, and I enjoy them all very much, but I am an older person, so I like Jim Browning's calming voice. I listen to the more excitable guys in the morning--it's like having an espresso for breakfast. Just as I watching the above video, my computer suddenly beeped and shut off. Hacker? Scammer? Ghost in the machine? Holy cow--it was a bit like watching a horror movie in bed and suddenly hearing footsteps coming up the stairs.

They don't all come from India. Only 95% of them do...

Sorry for a late response to this. But what I have never understood is of these companies want to appear as if they were based else where, why don't they use a VPN? Particularly, as people are become kore aware of scams and might start to know where to look.

They are not all in India. They are in Ukraine, Nigeria, and pockets of them in other countries.

My father is 82 and has a super desktop, laptop, mobile, videocam, drives still fast and it's only a few years he doesn't use his helicopter license anymore. But when it's up to computers....we use Teamviewer :-) ...always. Well...better than calling these guys !

I'm in same age range but had a computer when I was 12 (in the 1970's).

Come on Dennis my dad is 93 and has a laptop . Never too late its easier than ever. No DOS nonsense except when Jim needs it !

Thank you so much Dennis. I'm overwhelmed sometimes by the support that people give me and I sincerely thank you for this. Hopefully I can make a difference and you give me the time that I need to move this from a hobby to a much more full-time occupation. Thanks again Dennis.

Greetings Jim- Thank you for your work. I am too old to take a computer programming course. IM 64 a mechanical engineer. I witnessed the advent of computers taking over Process Controls from pneumatics. At least I can help you by being a Patron. You have my respect and admiration Sir.

I’ve been thinking about this too. It’s a shameful reputation to bring to your own country. I’m guessing it might be just an easy place to use because of poor government/law enforcement oversight, extreme poverty, and since it is quite normal to end up speaking to a customer service agent or more specifically, a technical support agent from a legitimate company in India already, victims won’t question it (and are already used to) hearing an Indian accent when calling actual Microsoft support?

Ok, let's not dodge it, why do 95% of scammers come from India?

Syd

I'm certain that she's a native French speaker. I suspect that she's actually from France too and has taken up a scamming job in Tunisia. I have a relative who helped me with the French translation and had also said that her French didn't sound at all 'foreign'.

Jim Browning

What surprised me, French being my native language, was to hear how well that first scammer was speaking. There's no hint of any kind of accent, everything she said sounded natural, it really sounded like she was a native speaker (maybe she was). This just makes the scam even more effective, since there's no indication her call center is based abroad and isn't legitim.

This was another great one! Looking forward to your next Videos. Thanks

Hey, If you ever need French translation, feel free to ask ! Cheers friend.

Got it from the thumbnail? :)

Jim Browning

Most of my scams seem to come from India (tech support ones primarily) or Africa (more traditional 419/Romance/Catfishing scams generally) but I've been seeing more and more coming from Russia/Ukraine and other eastern European countries too (which annoys the hell out of me, as I love that part of the world). It's definitely not all but it's definitely the majority. I can't wait for this new series, though, it sounds intriguing.

Andy D.

Cheers Jim, looking forward to the new videos.

I noticed that you anonymized the IP in the URL at the beginning of the video but when the scammer checks the source code tab at 10:40, the IP is visible. I can also confirm that tech support scams are usually from Tunisia or Morocco.

Eric Darchis

Also, good save on that source question

"no someone left this all on for me, I'm not very good with computers" XD excellent performance, you should've gotten an Oscar yesterday lol!

Crazy to think scammers will take the time and effort learning multiple languages to broaden their reach instead of applying themselves to something legitimate..
