The Proteus Effect: Version 0.2!

Greetings!

It came a bit later than I'd thought, but I'm pleased to present The Proteus Effect v0.2! There's about an hour to 1.5 hours of new content, depending on how you play, and I'm mostly pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I've also revised my patron tiers (don't worry, $5 is still the tier that will get all the latest versions!), and included rewards for the higher tiers based on your feedback. The first high-rez picture pack for $10+ patrons will be coming in a few days; I'll be re-rendering everything in much greater detail so that it still looks really good at the higher resolutions (and at ~6 hours per render at that quality... it's going to take a while). 

Anyway, here's what's in the new version:

New content:

New starter area

New dungeon

2 new H-scenes (one of which is 13 images)

New minigames

Various quests

Various other areas

Lots of dialogue


Gameplay enhancements:

Added intro skip feature

Can now hide text boxes during H-scenes (press 'h' for hide)

Revised equipment and equipment screen

Player character sprite now changes according to outfit

Probably a bunch of other stuff I forgot


[Edit: I would very much suggest starting a new game! Old saves should still work, but some of the equipment stuff might be wonky.]

Thank you for the kind words! No, there's a bit more content in this patch, but you've found a bug, unfortunately. When you're caught by the minions in the lower left hand corner, it sends you to a level I'd scrapped. You'll need to start from a save before you get sent to the room with the green stuff on the floor. It will be fixed (along with numerous other gamebreakers) in 0.2.3, which I'll probably have out today or tomorrow. You may just want to wait until then.

By the way, I love both the concept and current execution of the game. I think you have a real gem here.

I just finally got past the flame and pigman maze-thing, but the final stretch was empty and it won't let me go up the stairs. I'm just checking to see if this is where this version ends?

Is there a reason the 3rd cow is behind the fence?

I've tried to keep them available, except when doing so could potentially screw up cutscenes/the game. Thus far, I've limited them in two places: the bottom of the dungeon, and the old adventurers' house. I think I've found the gamebreaking error, and I'm now in the process of uploading 0.2.2.

Jesus, the writing and CG in this game is impeccable! really nice!
