Ribbon Of Restraint (Alpha 0.1)

Growing from trees within the Midnight Grove, while a Ribbon of Restraint may initially appear to be a colorful curled flower at first glance, it is actually a quite dangerous parasitic plant. With forms of vibrant yellows and pinks, though a Ribbon of Restrain is not capable of doing much physical damage on its own, if it is able to land upon a creature's head, it can create a psychic link that allows it to assume control of the creature's actions, restraining their control of a creature's own body.

The trees that bare Ribbons of Restraint are quite rare and only grow in specific conditions that very few know. For this reason, if a Ribbon of Restraint is able to assume control of a creature for an extended period of time, it will often do what it can to lure others to the tree from which it grew to provide other Ribbons with hosts. Once many Ribbons of Restraint have acquired hosts, they will often form groups known of conclaves, maintaining the goal of living in harmony and growing more trees that sprouts Ribbons, aiming to perpetuate this cycle.

In addition to the notable floral ribbon within the creature's hair, ways to tell that a creature is being controlled by a Ribbon of Restraint are a creature's apparent newfound obsession with nature, gardening, and growing plants. Additionally, an easy tell is often if the creature is acting overly lax and optimistic, refusing to be bothered by anything save for pollution or the destruction of nature.

Though uncommon, if Ribbon of Restraint is attached to a creature for an entire year, its long-term integration can cause its host to gain various plant-like qualities, becoming a Dryad. However, naturally occurring Dryads that were not created via a Ribbon of Restraint are immune to the Ribbon's mentally restraining abilities.

None

Tree Release: If connected to a tree, if a creature walks within one space of that tree, a Ribbon of Restraint can immediately release itself, attempting to use its Ribbon Integration ability.

Ribbon Telepathy: The Ribbon of Restraint can telepathically communicate with other Ribbons of Restraint within one mile.

Ribbon Integration: If a Ribbon of Restraint is touched to another creature's head and its isn't currently attached to a creature, it can attempt to attach itself to that creature. If it does, that creature can add 1d8, adding their choice of strength (to forcefully remove it), resolve (mentally steeling one's self), or finesse (dodging) to the result. If the total is less than 12, the Ribbon of Restraint integrates itself into that creature. At the beginning of that creature's turn, they sustain 2d6+2 psychic damage. If a creature's will reaches 0 while a Ribbon of Restraint is attached to them, it gains control of their body until it is removed, replacing that creature's resolve with its own. While attached to a creature, it can speak and take that creature's turns, though it can't access that creature's memories or cast spells it knows. If a Ribbon of Restraint would take non-psychic damage while it's controlling a creature, if that creature has more than 0 HP, it can cause the host to take that damage instead. The Ribbon of Restraint can only be removed safely if it reaches 0 HP or 0 Will, if it willingly releases itself from the host, or if the Mental Shock ability is triggered. A creature holding a Ribbon of Restraint can use an unarmed attack against another creature to attempt to trigger Ribbon Integration. Dryads are immune to the effects of this ability. If a creature is a host to a Ribbon of Restraint for over one year, its race changes to Dryad, with its hair becoming the color of the Ribbon of Restraint attached to them.

Mental Shock: If a Ribbon of Restrain would take psychic damage while integrated into a host, this integration immediately ends.
