Progress Report

Greetings, everyone!

It's that time of the week again, and you're surely expecting me to write more about how I've been composing music, right?

Well, sure, I've been doing some of that, mostly just trying to find inspiration for some of the few remaining tracks I will need in the first update, but nothing has really blown me away yet. Jumping between concepts with no clear idea in mind can get frustrating, so I decided to change things up a bit.

And so I started writing again. There is a lot of writing to do for this game, and while the story has been shuffling around in my brain (and my design document) for a good, long while, the distance between idea and paper can sometimes be almost overwhelmingly vast. I have talked about this before, but I sometimes struggle with going from idea to writing it because as long as the idea is in my head, it has nearly limitless potential. As soon as I write it down, that potential is reined in and made absolute, which is surprisingly scary. In a way, it's a kind of commitment, and those can make a shivering mess out of just about anyone under the right (wrong?) circumstances.

But it's also satisfying to put words to paper, for often, the potential I'm so afraid of making real turns out to live up to what I had in my head and sometimes even transcends it. It's just that the act of getting there takes a lot of effort. Fun effort, but effort nonetheless.

The scene I'm writing right now isn't developing as I had imagined it, but it was always vague and aimless in my head. Now that I'm writing it, all the vagueness evaporates, and the scene gains purpose. It's enriching to see for me as a writer.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing now until I get musically inspired again. I have much to do, and writing and music are just part of it. With less than three months of the year left, I'm really starting to feel the pressure.

Until next time!
