Progress Report

Greetings, everyone!

This week has seen me spending most of my efforts on the time-demanding process of updating all the cards to their new looks and ensuring they look correct in both small and large versions. You might not know this, but the renderers I use for the two sizes are entirely different, necessitating that I write the code that generates the layout twice and double-check each card to see fonts, placements, and so on all match. I can't automate this, so it must be done manually. Luckily, all that is done now. You can see a few updated cards (small versions) attached to this post.

This updated card design has gone through multiple feedback passes with players active in social channels where I can be found, with me tweaking based on the feedback received. If you want to make your opinions heard during the development of Supermodel, this is the best time for it. Come join us on the Discord server!

Additionally, I've been able to start working on the most significant feature of Supermodel Snapshot 2.0: the deck builder. The first order of business has been to create a user interface mockup to get a feel for how everything fits together on one screen. The deck builder can be somewhat complicated, so it is paramount to make it as simple and intuitive for the user as possible while hiding the complexity behind the scenes. Again, I've been gathering feedback from players on this and expect to continue to do so.

The current mockup of the deck builder is getting close to where I think it needs to be before I start turning it into an actual in-game menu. I expect many of you to spend quite a lot of time on this screen when 2.0 is out, so it needs to feel satisfying.

And that's it for this week. We're heading into some of the most fun parts of game development now. I can't wait to see the deck builder start taking shape and design my first deck, one that doesn't suck. Yes, I'm looking at you, deck from version 1.0! That deck should be nowhere to be seen in 2.0, so enjoy it while you all can.

Until next time!

Really excited about the deckbuilding part.

The card with the woman has AI-generated art, actually. "This is Fine" was created entirely by me with the same techniques as used in LLtP. You're going to see a mix of artstyles in the card game, but not in the main story which will be entirely handmade.

I've been kind of half-following this so I wouldn't feel the wait so keenly, but that card art is really nice. Had to say something. <3

The photography aspect isn't a huge part of the story, if that matters. It's important but not the main focus. The superhero stuff is more central, but it will develop in unexpected ways. This isn't Marvel, I'll say that. :)

As much as I'm not a fan of superhero photographer theme, I'm very curious about this cardgame aspect. I love when devs are trying to do new things.
