Progress Report
Added 2023-04-03 19:49:56 +0000 UTCI'm a little off with the timing of this progress report, and for that, I apologize. The beginning of Easter and some personal stuff really threw me off my game for a short while. Not to worry, though. Progress has been good.
As you should all know by now, Long Live the Princess was made available last week for free for backers and everyone else. As of now, Long Live the Princess is no longer behind a paywall. That honor is instead reserved for Supermodel. Anyone backing at the $5 level and above now gets access to the early development versions of Supermodel Snapshot and the more involved Supermodel: Defenders of Desire when it gets released later this year.
And with LLtP done at last, my focus is now entirely on Supermodel. I have 6 goals I want to achieve with the upcoming version 2.0 of Supermodel Snapshot:
- Improve the readability of the cards, both in terms of visuals, fonts, and wording.
- Add a respectable number of new cards, some with brand-new mechanics not yet seen in the current version.
- Create a "booster pack" mechanic that allows you to open randomized packs of cards satisfyingly.
- Create the deck builder menu. This is where you will see all the cards in your collection and build decks using them. This is the most important part of 2.0, in my opinion.
- Create new scenarios. The existing scenario will likely be retired or rebuilt. A new photo model will be introduced (I'll tell you who it is later), and you will be able to photograph both her and Vanguard separately. Each scenario will have a very different feel, requiring flexible tactics.
- Compose new music for the new scenario and the deck builder menu.
There's a lot to do, in other words, but none of this is of any significant complexity. The card game mechanics themselves were the tricky part, and those are already fully implemented.
Right now, I'm getting the first point out of the way. The cards are receiving a significant facelift based on player feedback. Currently, texts have been shortened, I have added icons for common terms, fonts have been replaced (less use of serif), and black outlines help make the text readable. If you were one of the people struggling to read the text on the cards in version 1.0, these changes should help a lot.
I have also composed the deck builder theme, leaving only the scenario theme for me to create.
I will continue to improve the cards over the coming days. Then I expect to move directly onto point 4, the deck builder. This is the most significant priority for 2.0, so I want to ensure it is done ASAP.
Until next time!
