Progress Report

It's been all about the music for me this past week, and it's been an enlightening journey. When I first decided to try my hand at composing the soundtrack for Supermodel, I did so with great hesitation and uncertainty. I used to compose a lot of music years ago, but I was never spectacular at it. Would that be enough to create a memorable soundtrack for an entire game after being out of practice for years? I didn't know, and that was not a good feeling.
But when you're filled with doubt, the best way to fight it is to dive headlong into things. I started composing. The first tests were slow and didn't end up quite the way I'd hoped, but I felt my skills slowly flowing back. I studied music theory again, refreshing my knowledge about the subject. I paid close attention to music in the genres I wanted to work on, attempting to understand the individual components that made the greater whole.
And now, it's finally starting to pay off. As mentioned before, I have so far finished Vanguard's theme for Supermodel Snapshot, and I couldn't be happier about how it turned out. There's no better way to build confidence than to feel like you've succeeded, and that's undoubtedly what I experienced with this track. So, this past week, I've tried to continue in the same vein, this time attempting to compose the main menu theme for Supermodel Snapshot.
I got sidetracked.
I now have three highly promising vertical slices of finished tracks, all of which I feel can be used in Supermodel. However, two of those three are unsuitable for the prototype. One track would only be useful as the theme for a character who won't show up in the prototype, while another will only be used for slow, melancholy parts of the visual novel sections in the full Supermodel: Defenders of Desire. The third, however, shows potential for the main menu, so I'm churning away at that one right now. Once I finish the main menu theme, the primary challenge standing in the way of Supermodel Snapshot's release will have been resolved. As a result, all my focus will remain on this until it's done.
So, to sum things up, this week was spent on nothing but composing music for the game in ways that will benefit both Supermodel: Defenders of Desire and Supermodel Snapshot. The release of the latter is getting ever closer...
Until next time!
