Progress Report

Greetings, everyone!

This week took an unexpected twist, as you'll see under the Supermodel section of this post. Anyway, let's just get right to it...

Long Live the Princess

Update 0.42 is moving along at a good pace, and I have been able to playtest almost all of it already, which bodes well for getting it released soon. Right now, the only things missing are one repeatable sex scene and the epilogue for Sister Agnes.

Once that is done, I'm doing the usual proofreading and testing pass, and then you'll get access to the update. It won't be long now.

Supermodel

The unexpected twist I mentioned has to do with music. Up until now, I've primarily bought licenses for music from one specific site. I did so for LLtP, and I continued to do so for Supermodel. But now, it turns out that the license terms have become so restrictive that the music I had licensed for Supermodel can no longer safely be used without risk of getting sued. In fact, this is a risk even with LLtP, but making it free will hopefully deal with the worst of that.

In any case, this situation means that I decided to scrap all the licensed music I had already prepared, which hurt a LOT. I was really invested in the soundtrack for this game and had designed entire scenes around some of these tracks. I can still keep a few of the existing tracks, but the majority will have to be scrapped.

The big problem is that almost every site that licenses out music does not allow its use in so-called "obscene content," and my games absolutely qualify as that due to their nature as adult games. I have found one site that explicitly will allow it, and I'm making good use of it. There is another site that doesn't seem to disallow it, and I might use that one as well (though in moderation).

Most importantly, this whole mess made me get back to composing my own music seriously. I used to compose a lot of music back in the day. However, I slowly drifted away from that hobby due to a lack of time and energy. This is a situation that has hardly improved these past few years with my two jobs. Due to neglect, my skills have deteriorated and need a lot of practice and studying to get back up to scratch.

This is something I've spent a lot of time on this past week, in addition to working on LLtP version 0.42. I have prepared a selection of music I wish to license. I have also decided to put considerable focus into my own music for the first time in years with the hope that I'll be able to compose at least part of the soundtrack for Supermodel. The benefits are many: I could release a separate soundtrack for the game if the music was my own. I could safely publish the game on Steam (LLtP would be too risky). I can take greater control over the music direction.

So that's another thing to add to my massive list of things that need doing for game development. Apparently, I'm now making music, too. Let's hope it works out.

By the way, if any of you know about a music licensing site that you are certain allows licensing to adult games, please let me know. Don't just guess, though.

Until next time!

I would never do that. If I can use it in my own game, I'll do that and keep it exclusive. If I can't use it in my game, I'll publish it through other channels not related to adult gaming. My goal here isn't to be a musician for hire. As a developer, that would be a waste of time better spent elsewhere. Fun thought, though. :)

You may be able to sale your music to other developers in the future.

This is something I can do with Supermodel instead. LLtP was never intended for Steam.

Thank you.

I have every confidence in your music-making abilities.

I'm a bit sad that there is no Steam release in plans.
