Progress Report

Greetings, everyone!

Adult game development can be a weird thing at times. Such as now, when a scene I was sure would look incredible looks okay, and a scene I thought would look okay looks incredible. Oh well, I'll take it. I know, from experience, that I have expectations that loom somewhere above what is reasonable, anyway.

Long Live the Princess

The big challenge I faced was Sister Agnes's dress, which caused all kinds of issues during cloth simulation. After a lot (and I mean a LOT) of fiddling, I finally got it to look reasonably good, which allowed me to animate a scene where... whoops, I almost said too much there.

However, this latest scene has no such problems, and I have a lot more control over the lighting, too. One thing I've gotten a lot better at over the past year or so is to use darkness in my images without tanking the render times, and that's something I'm taking full advantage of here. In my opinion, dark corners contrasting with the characters in a scene make for very appealing visuals. I wish I was better at this from the beginning of LLtP's development, as many of the game's scenes would have looked better with a bit of contrast, but it's too late for that now. At least there's Supermodel...

But before we get to that game, a quick summary of where we are in terms of version 0.41. First of all, I'm done with the animations in this update. What's left now is a non-animated scene that is already so well underway that it won't take me long to finish it. Once that is done, I expect to dive straight into writing and coding so that the update can be released before the end of June.

Supermodel

I didn't spend much time on Supermodel this week, but I've been thinking about it constantly. Additionally, I licensed some more music (a piece that you should all recognize, I believe) and wrote what is going to be one of the most pivotal scenes of the game's first update. Writing that scene got me incredibly inspired and excited, and I can't wait to start adding images and animations to it. This game is going to be something special; I can feel it.

In other news

Two other things are going on that you might like to know about.

The first is that I caught a cold again. Bleh. This is the reality of heading back to pre-covid behavior, I suppose. At least this one isn't anywhere near as bad as the one I had earlier this year, where I was completely knocked out for several days. This one merely has me suffering through a somewhat sore throat, dry cough, sniffles, and a mild feeling of lightheadedness. It does affect my ability to be an effective game developer. However, I'm still churning along without any fear of burnout, and that is because of the second thing:

Namely, in just a little over a week, I'll be heading out of the country for my first real vacation in a long time. I don't think I've been out of the country for at least 4 years or so.

Long story short, I'm heading to warmer weather with my family to relax in the sun, and I'll be gone for an entire week. I won't be doing any game development during that time, and we'll skip that week's progress report. However, I will still respond to any messages you send me on Patreon or SubscribeStar, and I'll be (sporadically) present on Discord. Rest assured, I will be getting in as much work as humanly possible before I leave so that the overall impact on the development of LLtP version 0.41 will be minimal.

Until next time!
