Progress Report
Added 2020-07-07 08:46:49 +0000 UTCWell, that's it for the first of the two big, dramatic scenes in this update. I'm done rendering, writing, and coding it, though I haven't tested it yet. It's so satisfying to finally put all of this in the game since I have been working towards this moment for literally years. Anyway, I won't say much more about it for fear of spoiling it. You'll see it soon enough.
Another big thing I did this week was to go back and use all the experience I've built up to redesign one of Primrose's old sex scenes. You might not know that her scenes have been a nightmare to work with because each image has typically taken anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to render. Needless to say, even the old 5-frame animations took too long to render. I went back and redid the lighting in the reading room so that it's brighter while shortening the camera's exposure time, which balances it out. The end result is that not only do the new images look sharper, with more defined shadows and colors, but their render times have dropped to a far more manageable 20 minutes. I'm going to use these improvements as the basis for a remake of all of Primrose's scenes eventually. For now, the improvements are focused on her blowjob scene. If you paid attention to the improved scenes in the previous version, you'd know what to expect here: smoother animation with more frames, better physics, and a wet effect on the penis that makes the whole thing look more realistic. If time permits, I'll try to improve more of her scenes in this version.
I have also begun work on the brand new sex scenes in this update. These are relatively brief scenes, but both will fill out a surprising blank for each of the two characters involved when it comes to available sex actions. I expect this will occupy my entire week and then some.
Still remaining is the second dramatic scene, as well as the denouement and cliffhanger. I'm still hoping to get this update out in July, but I obviously can't make any promises. Fingers crossed, anyway.

It was way too dark before, mostly because I wanted to create a specific mood without fully understanding how to use lights the most efficiently to do so. Because of the experience I have gained since then, I was now able to light the scene better. The reason the strength of the lights affects render times is that rendering is done through raytracing. The brighter a scene, the easier it is for the rays to reach the camera. In low-light conditions, it takes a lot more time to avoid ending up with a grainy mess. There have been similar issues with other characters too (most notably Callie), but Primrose has been particularly bad since all her sex scenes take place in the same badly lit room.
