Progress Report
Added 2019-07-26 19:54:01 +0000 UTCHowdy, patrons!
I'm melting away in the European heatwave as I write this, but the show must go on.
In last week's progress report, I told you that I was going to be tight-lipped for the rest of this month. That's why I'm not going to tell you about the new scene (with variations) that I've finished, but will instead focus on technical stuff.
Among that technical stuff is the fact that I have now, for the first time in this game's development, updated the version of Ren'py used to run it. I've been extremely hesitant to do this before. There is so much that could go wrong, subtle things that won't even show up in testing, but there are also positive sides to it that can't be ignored.
I've received quite a few reports from people on Mac telling me that they can't load any saves from 0.21 in 0.22, though saves from earlier versions still work. I believe this problem is caused by some kind of bug in Ren'py and not in Long Live the Princess, but there's really no way for me to look into the details since I don't own a Mac myself. This was what caused me to do the Ren'py update in the first place. If it's a bug with the engine, there's a good chance that updating from a 2-year old version would fix it. I want to try that out, so the engine is now fully updated and seems to be running perfectly fine on my computer. An added bonus is that the game should now run smoother. Gotta love having the engine optimize things for me.
Apart from that, I've added a hint feature for the gallery. If you visit the gallery and find locked scenes there, you will now be able to hover your mouse over the scene and see a little hint about the nature of the scene, hopefully pointing you in the right direction to unlock it without spoiling it outright. I want the gallery to act as a motivator for replays, so this fits perfectly with that idea. You won't ever be able to get all the scenes during one playthrough, and it can be frustrating playing through a game blindly several times in a row just to randomly try to find that one scene you're missing. This should help with that.
That's all I can think of sharing in this week's progress report. We're just 1 1/2 weeks away from the actual release of version 0.23, so the wait is rapidly growing shorter.
Until next time!

Sincerely speaking, it is tough to where you aim to but I am sure you'll succeed your goals.
2019-07-31 20:40:55 +0000 UTCThank you! You patrons put a lot of faith into me by giving me your support, and I strive to make myself worthy of it.
2019-07-31 19:17:35 +0000 UTCLook I really don't know much about creating a game, but seems you are pretty much in control , I am sure from what I have seen so far, you pretty much got the game physics in control , character design, I really appreciate your work and how tough it is to carry it , only if you alone, but you have us your patrons, stretching a buck or whatever for you, so you can advance unless is not your primary priority, well, it might take more time. Your endeavor to see your own play come alive, is all up to you.
2019-07-31 18:58:09 +0000 UTCOf course! I wouldn't put two updates like the previous one in a row. While it was important in the grand scheme of things, I realize that that kind of update can make players impatient, so I try to space them out. The new content in this update will take you many in-game actions to finish, and the results should absolutely be worth it (though not all the results will be in this update).
2019-07-31 16:37:50 +0000 UTCis there going to be any real new game play?
2019-07-31 16:34:08 +0000 UTCRain isn't so bad after a period of intense heat, but not if it's at the level where you need a boat to get anywhere.
2019-07-29 18:01:25 +0000 UTCThe real fun is when the heat breaks and everything is underwater. "Yay! The heatwave has ended! Boo! It's torrential rain n--glub, glub, glub."

2019-07-29 18:00:13 +0000 UTCAirflow isn't the real problem with my case, which is designed for good flow, to begin with. It's the room temperature that's a real bitch. Still, it's not a big problem. The temperatures are dropping soon enough for it not to be a problem, and in the meantime I can still pose scenes, write them, and code.
2019-07-29 17:57:12 +0000 UTCYou can always give it a little fan help, place a fan on each side of it so you create an air flow around it.

2019-07-29 17:50:19 +0000 UTCIt's my computer I'm the most worried about, so I'm not doing any renders while the worst heat is here. Good thing I've already finished almost all my renders for this month.
2019-07-29 15:19:50 +0000 UTCI've already melted in this heatwave, so look after yourself in the heat. Don't work too hard.

2019-07-29 15:18:23 +0000 UTCThe heatwave is mostly just heat, we don't have hurricanes in Europe or anything.
