Version 0.9.0 Public Release Schedule

If you're just visiting my Patreon or are a $1 patron, this post is for you.  

Version 0.9.0 has now been released for patrons at the $5 level and up. Since patrons are given a 1-month head start, that means 0.9.0 will become publicly available on June 28th. This release will include any hotfixes that may be created before that time.

You're pretty close to the mark here. The description of the problem is vague in the patch notes to keep them brief. What happens is that if you load a saved game and then roll back to before the point where the game was saved, *everything* that has been added or updated in terms of variables is reset to how it was in the version where the game was saved. This means that if I've added a new variable (I always add tons of those), that variable will suddenly not exist in your game, causing errors whenever it is referenced. If I've patched your save because of changes from earlier versions, that patch is nullified upon rolling back. Basically, your game becomes a mix of two different versions if you encounter this bug, and in the worst way possible too. Disabling rollback upon loading a save eliminates the issue. It seems to have worked too, because I have seen no reported errors caused by this bug since 0.10 was released.

I've played v0.9 multiple times and made extensive use of the Save/Load functionality and also did many times rollbacks before a saved state to reread some text or to made a different choice in a menu. But I never had any problems. I think the rollback problem only occurs if you load a saved state from a previous version and these state covers a situation where you - the developer - have made changes to the program, like changed dialogs text or changed variable settings etc. One thing that could lead to an error is the new implemented feature of naming the MC by Belle (the pixie ;) ) depending on his sexual experiences.

I have a design document that outlines the story, but the story itself isn't written. Writing the story is one of the most time-consuming parts of creating a new update every month. I don't really know how long it will take to finish the full game, but I've previously estimated that we're maybe halfway through. It'll be done when it's done. :)

Just wondering if you already wrote the full story for the game and if so from the pace the update coming out how long you think it will take for the full game to be completed?

Yeah, I saw that just before going to bed last night. We'll have to wait and see how this looks when everything settles.

It might be after the new announcement. Valve said that they will allow everything now, as long as it's not illegal or a straight up troll game :)

I don't know why you're having trouble with PayPal, but either way, I don't currently have an alternate way to support me. There are several reasons for this, not least the fact that it would make taxes trickier for me, probably costing more than I would gain by doing so. The game is supposed to remain free after it is completed, so selling it isn't really the focus for me. All I'm asking is for people to help support me while I develop it, if they can. If not, the free versions are available one month after their Patreon release.

Belle as I can t understand.. maybe I have issues with Paypall or they just trying anything to gain or scvange my money.. I can t say..as paypall askes me to add credit card, when I know I can use their site, without using credit card, wtich suprises me why, its happning. I uderstand that you may not be able come to steam, but is it possible you may in the future use your own site and sell your games? where customers like myself may use other Internet pay even knows as skrill? love to hear andf see more of your content <3

You don't need a credit card to support a Patreon. You should be able to use PayPal for that, and it sounds like you're already able to do so.

I don't really know. I think we're roughly halfway through the game so far, but it's hard to say. Story length and progress doesn't necessarily translate directly to development time.

There is support for sorting in the clue system. In fact, earlier versions of the game sorted the clues better than they are arranged right now. However, this system collapsed when I introduced support for older saves. It's something I will probably look into again in the future.

Ah, you're right. Indeed some used clues disappeared. Still, I've just finished current version and have page and a half of clues. It could get tiresome to find the right clue. Maybe implement some kind of sorting or grouping? For example: by the day the clue was found. Again this is just a thought.

I actually do remove used clues when I'm certain that they're not going to be needed again. This happens many times throughout the game so far. Some clues are kept for longer though, either because they will be needed again or because they can be used as a reminder of an important detail for the player.

I've made a change to the loading of saved games for the next version. It'll no longer be possible to use rollback to move earlier than the point where the game was saved. That should eliminate the exceptions people are getting.

Really like how this game is developing. Keep up the good work! Just a thought - maybe remove used clues from the list? Unless there are to be used more than once.

Rollback in renpy is a very strange mechanism. It works rather bad.
