Say hello to the newest girl to join the cast of Long Live the Princess. Her name is Erato, and she is a dryad. As you can probably imagine, we're really heading into Fey Court territory now, something we can only do because of your support in helping us reach the $2000 goal earlier.
I have done a lot over the last week. Unless something should pop up at the last minute, all my renders related to the dryad are done. I haven't started actually writing those scenes yet, but I'm not expecting any significant challenges there.
A brand new scene with Aldred has been written, rendered, and fully implemented into the game. This also introduces additional gameplay elements that I'm going to let stay a surprise until you get to play the new version.
Belle will now provide hints to point the player in the right direction if they're taking a long time to figure out how to train the various abilities. She won't spoil any puzzles, but she will at least help the player realize what part of the game he should focus on.
I have also added a map of the areas surrounding the town. You will use this map to travel longer distances. New locations can be unlocked over time, giving the player a sense of discovery and exploration. As a consequence of this new feature, you can no longer travel directly from the town to the Crone's hut. You now have to first leave town and bring up the map. This should give a better sense of distance and scale. Up until now, the Crone might as well have been living in the middle of town.
Attached below is a screenshot of the new map in action. The "Crone's hut" text is a tooltip because the mouse is hovering over it in that image, even though you can't see the pointer.
We're in the final stretch before the release of version 0.7 now. There's still a ton of work for me to do, but at least it feels like I've got this under control.
Until next time.
