Progress report for 0.4 and news about 0.5

Hello everyone! As we are about to head into the most festive part of the year, it's time to give you all an update about my progress on version 0.4 and what I'm planning as we move ahead with future releases. As a little Christmas present from me, please enjoy the above preview of Nell (right-click and save the image to see it in its full glory), one of the two new girls being introduced in 0.4. She is a young squire, serving under the knight Samarra, and has recently reached adulthood. She is now facing the prospect of becoming a true knight herself. In the middle of all this, she carries with her a secret that could disrupt the carefully nurtured peace between the races of the world, and she poses a significant threat to both the protagonist and to Belle. Is she friend or foe? Only time will tell.

Now then, let's talk about development progress. To make a long story short, there's so much content I want to add for Samarra and Nell that I've started to realize that there's no way for me to do them justice with just version 0.4 alone. Nor could I possibly finish all their basic content in the time left to me this month. As such, I've decided that the best approach is to keep working on those two girls for 0.5 as well, both finishing up and polishing their content to at least match, but more likely exceed, what is there for the existing girls.

0.4 will contain a bunch of juicy scenes as well as the beginning of the agility training route. I will do my best to extend previous scenes that rely on agility so that we can see more of them, but how far I get with this depends on how much time I have left over, if any. 0.5 should expand upon all aspects of Samarra and Nell, especially when it comes to their personal stories and the secrets they hide.

I have almost finished Nell's content for this version, while much of Samarra's is missing. I definitely have my work cut out for me until the end of this year. Even as I write this, 0.4 contains more images than 0.3 ever did, and I'm far from done.

Anyway, that's all for me right now. I need to get back to work. Do you have any thoughts about the game and its progression? Let me know in the comments below.

On the contrary, NG+ is part of the core design of the game mechanics. It mostly comes from one of the primary inspirations, Persona. Those games feature NG+ where you get to keep your stats. Long Live the Princess is a free roam sandbox right now, but it will feature a time limit (though a generous one) after a while. NG+ will give you a lot more time to deal with the limit (as well as some other surprises that we'll talk about some other time).

This is a free roam sandbox game no Ng+ needed

There is no NG+ yet, and there probably won't be until there is a proper end to the game. It's more of a hint about the future of Long Live the Princess at this point.

yes

I'm not sure I understand your question here. Are you asking about New Game+?

Nice, but I wonder how end story and begin new story

This is definitely something I keep in mind and would do if it became necessary, but that's luckily not the case this time. I can safely release 0.4 in time, but it won't encompass the entirety of what I want to do (initially) with Samarra and Nell. What will be there will work though, and it won't hold me back for later.

Fully understand, and what I guess I mean is if what you want to get done in 0.4 expanded to something you couldn't do by when you originally wanted to release 0.4, I'm perfectly happy if you delay 0.4 to add as much content as you want to get done for it. Especially if the alternative means you need to spend extra time removing/disabling some incomplete bits to get 0.4 out. Basically, don't make yourself a slave to releasing something every 4 weeks.

To be clear, this isn't really a delay. It's more of a case of my ambitions growing beyond the scope of what I can do in a single version. You're not getting any less content. In fact, the planned content is expanding beyond what I originally had in mind.

I'm fine waiting longer for some releases if it makes sense for what you're working on. Just keep us updated on progress and all is good. I would prefer occasional delays, even lengthy ones, if it makes it easier for you to finish a section of content. And don't forget to spend some time just enjoying the holidays.

Thank you, and likewise. :)

I think I speak for most when I say. We love the work you are doing, Keep it up and have a great Xmas/New year.
