Experiment and thoughts debrief

Heyy guys and girls (there are girls in there right!?? It's so weird if not i should think about that lol)

So i'm not super happy with the hybrid pixel/painting experiment, it doesn't look super detailed and it's a little too messy for my liking there, also i struggled like crazy to draw and shade the character in an original position (without referencing) i'm still not good at that lol but i want to get better! not sure i'll try again, we'll see! That's an interesting direction to explore!

About the chat we had about all the things, thx a lot for your advices and opinions!

ONE thing i started doing with that Tunic art, which i think i could have started a long time ago actually ... Is doing the art (i changed midway) 16/9 BY DEFAULT! Which simply means you guys now have the full composition and details and a wide scenery in 16/9 (and just a little crop in 16/10).

One thing that was always a big struggle for me is the variety of format needed. And especially the conflict between selling posters and wallpapers.. I need both obviously, and redbubble has that crappy sizing process where basically if you don't do one precise format (A2) the poster will never be standard frame sizes... Of course if you do 16/9, it's difficult to find 16/9 frames and impossible at the random size they're going to sell it.

So i used that A2 format as default for years and then i'm thinking now who cares.. They can buy art prints to frame, and posters don't have to be framed to begin with, they can also buy framed posters or metallic which brings me way  more money.

Anyway that means i can now work directly in 16/9 again, and that's not just way better for you, it should be a nice refreshing change for me and my compositions! Let's see how it turns out for that Pikmin 4 art!

An other topic was how to offer more exclusive content and how to share it outside. The format brings an other possibility and some of you talked about that actually! I'm going to show a cropped version now on social networks! For usual art to begin with, then we'll see about exclusive art for series! Also something good i realized (that's simple actually i should have thought about it lol) is that when i export pixel art, i will now use bilinear and not nearest (for those of you who know the tech haha), which simply means.. It looks good at intended resolution, with proper pixel sharpness, but if you resize it, it looks gross lol. Which naturally makes each resolution exclusive to their pledge!

We'll see if you like the pixel experiment with the Tunic art!

I agree about rectangles on a shirt. Yeah, it is a lot of work. I didn't know about the other shirts though. I'm gonna check it out, cheers.

The thing is i need to do special art for it, i hate putting just rectangular art on a shirt and colors will look terrible :p I did though, i have some of them on redbubble! I wanted to do more but i never have time.

Maybe it's already on Red Bubble, I'm not sure, but have you thought about selling T-shirts? Some of your character/pixel art would look super cool on it. I don't know the logistics, but just an idea.
