Ferromycete

Weapon (club), very rare (requires attunement)

Metallic mycelium branches from the surface of a rotted skull, forming jagged growths. This weapon can hold up to 3 charges and gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls for each charge it has. Additionally, its form changes based on the number of charges it has (0: club, 1: dagger, 2: scimitar, 4: longsword). Regardless of its form, while attuned to this weapon you are considered proficient with it. 

Rot. If you touch this weapon to the corpse of a humanoid or beast type creature, the corpse withers into mulch, and this weapon regains a number of charges depending on the size of the corpse (small or smaller: 1 charge, medium: 2 charges, large or larger; 3 charges). 

Bloom. When you hit a creature with this weapon, you can spend a charge to have the target make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 5d8 necrotic damage and is poisoned. While poisoned, the target must repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns until it gets three successes or failures. If the target succeeds on three of the saves, the effect ends on the target. If the target fails three of the saves, fungal growths erupt from their body and they suffer the following effects: 

This effect lasts for 7 days or until removed by the greater restoration spell or other magic. 

The dance between life and death, a precarious balance that must be maintained for all time. For as the living leave this mortal coil, their bodies themselves provide the nutrients to provide evermore. Never forget; this too shall pass.
