Commission piece
Added 2024-05-04 22:34:32 +0000 UTCI'm doing this commission for my friend. It's a birthday present.
I did the study which is on the left in the picture above.
Then I used the grid method to transfer the reference photo to the surface.
the surface I'm working on is clay board. It's my first time using it.
Clay board has a very smooth surface. So smooth that the paint tends to slide around when it's wet.
I think that would be very annoying with oil paint. But since acrylic dries faster It's just making me work in layers rather than trying to do too much blending or anything.
Anyways. After the grid drawing I toned it all with transparent red Iron oxide and then started painting grayscale over it.
Now I'm getting into the color phase
And realizing where I need to figure out problems. Like the hand over the kids arms for example. and I'm doing that by taking awkward photos of myself and looking things up online.
Then I'll do some detailing and cleaning up and I'll be done.
Have Fun
Goodnight Sweeties

I remember learning the gridding process when I was in high school! I only used this process a couple times but it is definitely one thing that stuck with me from school.
