Here's the process of my Mask Submission from the sketch to the finished product. Some narration about how I came up with the idea and how my initial idea had to change.
Reminder: mask submissions are due tomorrow. I think I only got one submission.
Probably my fault for putting the wrong date on the post.
Again, sorry about the crappy audio in the video. This is the last one I'll do on my phone.
It's starting to rain here.
There's supposed to be a huge storm this weekend.
This type of weather will always make me think of the winter I did snow removal in Tahoe.
I was living in this small town near Tahoe. I was so broke.
I went to the unemployment office. They told me that they're desperate for people to shovel snow.
It was one of the most brutal winters Tahoe had seen at the time. Record breaking snow.
They gave me a name and number for this guy and I called him. He, and everyone I met at this job, ended up being fascinating characters. Maybe I'll talk about them more later.
Anyways. I called him up, He confirmed they were desperate. Gave me an address. Told me I could start the next day.
Work started at 3 am.
I basically had to take the job.
I didn't even have any snow clothes. I had to call friends and family members and see if they had anything I could borrow.
I used my last little bit of money to buy wool socks.
My Grandpa felt bad for me and bought me some snow boots.
I lived at the base of the mountain. So every morning at about 2 am I was driving up this winding mountain road sometimes in blizzards, to shovel snow for 8-12 hours.
It was the hardest thing I've ever done for money.
It felt like the winter would never end. Sometimes it felt like I wouldn't survive.
But eventually, the snow melted, leaves started growing on the trees.
And I felt like a stronger person.
Here's a watercolor from a sketchbook I did a few years ago reflecting on that experience.
Have Fun
goodnight sweeties
