We're doing masks! This was another tie breaker vote. I chose masks because it seems appropriate for that to be the first prompt of the year.
It would be awesome if everyone made an actual physical mask. But if you want to do a drawing or a painting of masks that's totally cool.
The mask on the flyer was one that I made for a contest at Blick back in 2017. For that one Blick provided us with masks to decorate. It was just like a blank mask made out of white cardboard. Made to be drawn on and stuff.
I a bunch of cheap barbie dolls that I had used for a video. I stuck them to the mask with heavy gel medium. Very crude. But it won the contest! I got like a 20 dollar gift certificate to Blick and a tote bag that I still use to this day.
Actually I remember I used the gift card for something that I ended up wanting to exchange for something. And I just remember it was a nightmare to sort out. It was like one of those things where I had to give them my driver's license and sign some form to do the exchange.

This morning I made some progress on the maquette. It looks great. I'll share some pictures soon. Going to spend more time photographing it today.
I ran some other errands. I got my cat some of these treats she likes and a new scratch post thing.
Speaking of Blick, I had to go there too. I needed some glazing medium and more of the colors I'm going to use for this big painting.
It was expensive. I knew it would be. I told the cashier not to tell me the total. He rang me up and told me the total. Force of habit probably.
I made a sound like I got stung by a bee. I made the mistake of checking my bank account before going to run errands.
It was one of those errand outings where I just want it to be over the whole time.
I was lost in thought the whole time. Thinking about the painting, thinking about the bank account, just thinking.
I went to the grocery store.
There's this old dude who works at the grocery store. Retired military vet. He collects the shopping carts from the parking lot and sweeps the floor.
One time he told me he only does this job because if he doesn't have anything to do during the day he gets into trouble.
I met him when he took my cart one day. He asked if I was a musician. I guess because I have long hair. I told him I play guitar and make beats.
He's a drummer. And now every time I see him he tells me all about the gigs he plays with his different bands.
I used to avoid him. I don't want to talk to people at the grocery store.
But lately I've been trying to plan for that moment and treat it like it's just another one of the errands.
I get eggs and I get to hear about the local shows this guy plays with his cover bands.
He played the American Legion in Baldwin Park on New Years Eve.
That was with his blues band, not his country band. He told me they played some of the classics but I cannot remember which songs he mentioned.
I asked if they played "New York New York." They didn't. But they played a lot of slow songs so the couples could slow dance and get intimate.
Have fun
goodnight sweeties
