Big Painting Back to the Future Shower Thoughts

Painting Process first.

I put started putting paint on this one last night. 

I'm going to keep working the background area with the single color.

Then I'm going to do an automatic drawing type of thing on it and add some form to that.

Then I'll build up the underpainting.

Then I'll start adding color.

At least that's the plan. We'll see. 

I haven't worked on a painting this big in 5 years. I'm not really set up for it. 

My whole set up is janky. I have a crappy easel. Old Tv dinner table to hold the pallet paper, bucket of water just sitting on the ground. 

I'll have no place to store this thing when I'm done with it. 

Happy December 28th Everybody

I've felt very out of it the past two days. Just tired all the time and unable to focus on anything.

I just want to sleep. 

Today in the shower I realized that if they made the movie Back to the Future today, they'd have to time travel back to the mid 90's to cover the same amount of time that they did in the first movie. They went from 1985 to 1955. 2024 to 1994. 30 years.

I don't want to think that 1994 is to 2024 what 1955 is to 1985.

It's funny to imagine some Zoomer kid going back to the mid 90's though. 

It's hard for me to imagine a Zoomer kid being able to own the 90's the way Marty Mcfly was able to own the 50's. 

I just imagine them getting bored when their phones stop working. 

But that might just be a sign of me getting old and cynical about the young. People from the 50's probably thought similar things about Marty Mcfly in the 80's. 

But also, Marty Mcfly didn't have TikTok. And I think if I correct for my old cynical bias about young people, there is an important difference. 

Not just TikTok. Relying on smartphones for everything and living in simulated/augmented/alternative realities 24/7 (i.e social media and video games) and then going back to the mid 90's is different than just liking Van Halen and skateboarding like Marty Mcfly in the 80's and going back to the 50's and being a little out of place. 

A Zoomer going from now to 1994 seems more like the third movie where Marty goes back to the 1880s from the 1980s. I really think there would be that level of disconnect.

However, Zoomers do have access to so much media. I liked a ton of 80's music when I was a teenager in the mid 00s. Zoomers could easily be fans of like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Limp Bizkit, Tupac or whatever, go back to the 90's, and using that as a starting point, save the future however they gotta save it. 

There would definitely be scenes where they're like "let me look that up," and they go for their smartphone and it doesn't work.
