Tonal Doodlings

These are two tonal studies for the big painting. I'm not really trying to plan out the exact thing the painting is going to be. I'm just looking for for of a gesture. A shape. Then I will do more of an automatic process within that on the actual canvas and develop it as I go.

Happy December 23rd everybody

Or as my mom calls it "Christmas Adam."

I wrapped gifts today.

I'm a horrible gift wrapper. But what I lack in gift wrapping skills I make up for with charm and artistry.

I finished reading the Christmas Carol last night. And by that I mean I finished listening to Tim Curry read a Christmas Carrol.

When I was a kid I used to go to my Grandparent's house and watch the Christmas Carol with George C. Scott as Scrooge.

I loved the  eerie tone of the beginning of that film, George C. Scott yell "Mr. Cratchet," and the fear I always felt about the dark chambers of Scrooge's house.

It's as much a film about death as it is about Christmas. Basically the whole moral of the thing is, you're going to die some day so don't be a jerk while you're alive.

In reading the book for the first time I like how the ghosts are personified to represent the passage of time

The Ghost of Christmas Present especially spoke to me. He is surrounded by ripe fruit and delicious foods at the beginning. He's the loud lively ghost.

But as the night goes on he ages noticably, something I don't recall in any of the films I've watched.

His life ends that night. Life is a series of moments, and days, and months and years. The life cycle of a day is just one day. The life cycle of one second is just one second.
