Scattering Brain Seeds

These are some thumbnail sketches for a new painting. Scattering little seeds and looking for one that will grow.
The painting is for a show I've been invited to show in at the Dark Art Emporium. The show sounds super cool and the theme is right up my alley. It's about caves and their relationship to imagination and creativity and that type of thing.
I'm leaning very much towards doing a larger painting for this show which is one reason I'm starting with tiny thumbnails. But also because it's just a good way to express a lot of different ideas really quickly. I'm going to fill a few more pages like this probably and do more sketches to figure out the piece.

I stay up late. Then I sleep too long. Then I think "I should go to be earlier." and then immediately, "I know I'm not going to though."
Lately before bed, when I finally start winding down around 1 or 2 am, I have been reading this book of correspondences between the musician Mark Kozelek and the actor Kevin Corrigan.
Or, watching skateboarding videos.
Last night I watched a bunch of Mark Gonzalez' video parts. Mark Gonzalez was a pioneer in street skateboarding. When I was watching last night I kept thinking about those notches that people put on ledges and handrails now to keep people from skateboarding on them. Mark Gonzalez is probably more responsible than anyone on Earth for those things becoming a necessity in modern architecture.
Skateboarding is cool because there are different types of skateboarders just like there are different kinds of painters.
There are skateboarders who really focus on their finesse and doing everything cleanly like Andrew Reynolds or Chris Cole. Everything looks fluid and simple and cool.
Then there are skateboarders like Mark Gonzalez who are more choppy, chaotic and raw.
It's like how there's Botticelli and then there's Francis Bacon.
I love it all.
