I know I mentioned this a little in a previous post so sorry if I repeat myself. But I’ve been coming to the realization-with the help of a mentor-that the key to taking my art to the next level is to use more reference.
Honestly I find this realization kind of distressing because so much of what I enjoy most about making art is the spontaneity of it. And going through the process of creating a maquette or a photo shop reference just seems to add so much extra work.
But it’s just become so obvious to me that I need to do it. So now I’m finding ways to get in to the process of doing that.
Right now, that involves making these clay figure things and then drawing them.
I’ll make a more detailed video about this process.
But I’m learning to enjoy it.
I treat the sculpting of the head as like an automatic process, similar to automatic drawing, where I just push it and squeeze it into shapes that I like.
I’ve also been looking for different fabrics and trinkets and such to add to the models.
I’m starting to enjoy this process.
Have fun
Goodnight sweeties
