My friend Atom uses what I like to call "Automatic Gradients" as a starting point for his paintings. Instead of scribbling he creates these little patches of color. Sometimes he throws paint around or presses the brush into the paint in random patterns. Then he spends a lot of time adding form and detail.

Tia scribbled in her sketchbook, took a picture and transfered it over to her iPad where she created this piece using Procreate.

"I'm on the road and only have my tiny travel sketchbook and very few material with me, so this is my small submission for the automatic drawing prompt. I did it in 10-15 minutes. Best wishes and greetings from Germany!"

Thanks for taking the time Katrin! I love the idea of the piece. I could see you turning this into a full painting when you get home!

"Automatic drawing using an old artwork of mine (a monoprint), grey lead pencil and then acrylic paint. Whilst this isn't typical of my work I really enjoyed spending time with it! It was calming and playful. Here is Mr Colour-full."
