This piece was the longest piece I worked on in this series. There were 3 false starts. The string thing, the decalcomania, then the portrait I started over it. Sometimes it just comes down to "make it more simple...stupid."
I like that I can see my reflection in the varnish.
I got the title from the episode of Mad Men where Don Draper is pitching the idea for a slide show projector to Kodiak, the Carousel. He says
"Nostalgia – its delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek nostalgia literally means 'the pain from an old wound. ' It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone."
