ITDBA: Basics of Form-geometric forms, manipulation, the mannequin

In this Intro to Drawing Bad Art lesson we go over the basics of form. starting with the geometric forms, drawing them from different angles, manipulating them and constructing them using the mannequin.

Further resources:

For detailed instructions on drawing ellipses and cylinders in perspective I recommend the chapter in Ernest Norling's book on that subject in Perspective Made Easy.

For breaking the head and human body down into simpler forms I recommend Andrew Loomis' books Drawing the Head and Hands and Figure Drawing For All it's Worth You can also get both books in a nice box set

Alphonso Dunn teaches structure and form in a very compressive way. If I did nothing but confuse you, I recommend checking out his stuff on this subject. Alphonso Dunn's Pen and ink book

Other videos you can watch on this subject: Speaking of Alphonso Dunn, he has two of the best explanations I've seen on the structural aspect of form and on using the mannequin to draw figures. I've returned to both of these videos many times.

Antonio Stappaerts has a course on Proko which he describes in this video. This may be a little more advanced. but super useful.

The model I'm drawing in this video drawing is Amanda Achen.  @Amandaachen_official on Youtube

You can find the references I used on her Gumroad

She's also an amazing singer, check her out on Spotify
