Futureporn May Progress Report

Capital

I spend a lot of time thinking about how I can improve Futureporn. Money is an easy solution I often consider, but lately I've been focusing elsewhere. I heard something from an entrepreneur about three types of capital.

• Financial capital

• Skills capital

• Relationship capital

I may not have a massive budget like other video sharing sites, but I have skills and I have relationships. And the great thing is, I can improve both of those forms of capital without spending any money.

Under construction

To build the best stuff, we need the best stuff. That's why I'm learning Kubernetes (k8s.) With k8s, I am making infrastructure upgrades that will make Futureporn better, faster, stronger.

I'm adopting GitOps for better kubernetes deployments. This puts everything needed to run the entire fleet of servers, apps, load balancers, along with configuration files and secrets all in one place. It's bringing together a formely fragmented system and containerizing every part into something that I can actually wrap my head around. The cognitive load required for understanding Futureporn is shrinking, and I'm in a better place with the structure.

Roadmap

Futureporn has a never-ending todo list, but lately I've boiled down that todo list to only include items that are going to help us achieve a badass user experience. Here's the list of what I have planned.

99.999% Automated VOD processing

If I were to add a new VOD today, I would have to run through a checklist of about 15 manual tasks in order for the VOD to appear on the website and be playable by visitors. To scale Futureporn, we need the manual tasks down to 1, at which point a helpful bot takes over and automatically completes the other 14 tasks. I'm slowly working through all the code needed to make this possible.

99.999% automated VOD integrity checks

Once in a while, VODs become inaccessible and they are no longer able to be played back. One such instance in recent history was caused by my own human error, which took some time to recover from backup.

Currently there is no automated checks for finding VODs which are corrupted, and there definitely should be something like that.

Stream Archive

Progress has been made! Stream Archive will be the go-to place for filtering through a massive list of old vods. See who streamed, when, and on what platform.

99.999% Automated Stream Archive data acquisition

This is the backend of Stream Archive, which automatically gathers stream metadata and populates the archive table. This system is designed and is being tested.

Vibrator integration (funscripts)

Everybody has been patiently waiting for it (thank you!) and it's coming as soon as I have the strong infrastructure foundation in place.

Toys directory (with affiliate links)

Funding is an ongoing struggle, and rather than implementing banner ads, I thought of an alternative where everyone wins.

Firstly, the toys directory will show all the toys a lewdtuber is known to use, along with the VODs where that toy appears. Want the toy yourself? An affiliate link directs you to where you can buy, and the kickback from the sale helps Futureporn continue to do what it does.

Taking smaller bites

I'll be honest. I had planned to release 2 new features today, squash 3 bugs, and complete 2 backend refactors. In reality, I spent the past 30 days making progress on 7 different things and none of them are ready to release.

I like to release new things often, so I think I will plan on taking on fewer tasks at a time. I think if I focus on fewer tasks for next month's update, I will complete more.
