A bit of both, I guess. It's hard to say - it's quite likely the snow was always added, so when they recomped the shot, they just added new snow, because they didn't have the original element any more.

I am assuming it was faster for someone to just remove all the noise and recreate snow rather than take the care because time is money? Or is it a skill/art of compositing? I’m curious if this is your experience in solving problems during this process that might not be obvious to others?
