I cannot deny it, I replayed the part near the end to re-hear that little line of "what the hell am I gonna do?". It felt so very natural, something I don't see and it makes me so happy to see clear improvement from you guys! I LOVE IT, ALL THE HOMO

Seriously, this episode is brilliant. And an absolutely amazing decision was made with Suguha's character. Kirito's character in SAOA is built a lot around him getting pushed around and beaten up in the real world, but since there's no way to show this with proper bullies due to the constraints the original show provides, it was a godly brilliant choice to bring this element into Suguha, both fixing her character and providing key context to Kirito's character in one fell swoop. Now we have a brilliant setup for later episodes, where she'll perhaps learn her baby brother isn't such a nerdy pushover with an imaginary wife in Alfheim. And now there's actually a reason beyond contrivance as to why Suguha doesn't tell Kirito she's been playing mmorpgs! Brilliant! Seriously, SWE's entirely brilliant decision making in the field of writing will never cease to astound me.

On a more subtle note, Kirito's attempted diss at Sugou was ingenious. It was the same kind of "old-man" insult he hit Heathcliff with, but he was stammering throughout this time... because he's not backed up by his godlike stats anymore. He's trying to keep the bravado he gained these past two years, but can't keep it going in the real world (probably in no small part due to Suguha). And Sugou shutting him down was not just funny, but SWE's far more insidious version of saying that this next villain has a Power Level of 100.000, while the last one had only 18.000. Dissing people Kirito was about to fight was, as he said, his "style". All throughout season 1 he managed to get under his (non-NPC) opponent's skin, boosting his own confidence and making them either hesitant or distracted with anger. But now, he's up against someone who is better at it than he is. That's a great way to raise the stakes. Bravo!

It's going to be hard to turn the Alfheim arc into something not asinine, but you guys are off to a great start. 10 minutes into the real world, and Kirito's and Asuna's characters in season 1 make way too much sense already. Making the character derided for having no traits except "love Kirito" his bully was a nice touch too. I'm calling it now: "You sound like a girl." was one of her favorite taunts for Kirito. (And if it wasn't going to be that way already, well, it's a suggestion... ;) )
